It's a pity it's growth education

"Fish Tank" is easily reminiscent of "Growth Education", one of the 2009 Oscar nominations. Because both films mentioned a story about adolescent girls and pseudo-single old men. The latter is of course a very hypocritical film. I have written a film review for it before ( http://i.mtime.com/3316235/blog/4545909/ ), so I won’t repeat it here. However, "Fish Tank", which showed a good temperament at the beginning, unfortunately fell into the surroundings of "Growth Education" because of the anticlimactic narrative.

The girl Mia is out of touch with the things around her. Her decadent and coquettish mother, her rebellious and savage sister, and the girls of the same age whom she hated. So she confronted these external factors that brought her a sense of restraint with rude and cold expressions.
Mia likes to keep her CD alone in a high-rise cabin, and practice her dance over and over again. It is said that people who like to dance are usually very confident, and they always have a strong desire to show themselves. Mia used this method to vent her inner passion and yearning for freedom. She took the risk several times and tried to break the iron chain with rocks to release the impulse of the white horse, which is the portrayal of her inner desire to break free from the surroundings, free from her mother, and free from all restraints. This moving plot design has also become a highlight of the film.

In this family of three women, the roles of father and husband are missing. Then the actor of the film appeared, his mother's boyfriend Connor, a charming middle-aged man.
In the first half of the film, the relationship between Mia and Connor and the emotional development of the two are extremely detailed and detailed. From the strange resistance at the beginning; to the cozy "California Dream" when driving out for a drive, it narrowed the distance between Mia's heart and this man a bit. After that, he went down to the river to catch fish and cut his foot. Connor was walking with Mia on his back; so Mia was willing to dance her love with her injured foot in front of this strange man. This is a gesture of trust and stretching. The plot is so natural and moving.
This seemingly cold-looking girl with a weird personality found a touch of being protected and appreciated by this warm and charming middle-aged man. This is a kind of light that resembles a father’s love, and the warmth infiltrates her body that feels bound. And mind. After that, Mia brought her little boyfriend to Connor and asked for pocket money to buy alcohol and drink. It was like a little girl acting like a baby to her father; she also told him that she wanted to apply for a dancer but was disturbed. The mood has also been supported and encouraged by Connor.
Of course she loves this man, a heterosexual love with an Electra plot. This subtle feeling is very arresting, but it is also really difficult to grasp. I really looked forward to the emotional direction of the film. In the middle of the night, they were drinking together and Connor asked Mia to dance to himself. I prayed silently in my heart, don't continue to extend it, stop here. But the film still drags the relationship between the two into the circle of sex.
It's a bit like a wine that can be tasted slowly and gradually drunk. It feels refreshed, but it loses its beauty and makes people feel at a loss. Of course, the temperament of the film suddenly slipped. In fact, this kind of treatment is not indispensable. Real life lacks the subtle feelings before the film, mostly naked. It's just that this makes the subsequent development and quality assurance of the film's plot a difficult action, or fall into a cliché, or make up.
In the end, the creator chose the same plot ending as "Growing Education", without creativity but it seemed that he had no choice. It seems that there must always be a middle-aged uncle who was full of charm at first, but later found out that the original abominable face came to serve as a roadblock that shattered the soul on the road of little Lori's growth. In short, remember that little girls can't afford to offend uncles. It's just that the subtle emotions that seemed to be nothing, gently swaying between father's love and love, suddenly fell; like a glass of swaying clear water, slightly dizzy and not knowing where to go, suddenly the water temperature suddenly rises, and the cup bursts. Debris and water splashed all over the endgame.
In the end, Mia kidnapped Connor's youngest daughter in revenge, and later rescued her who fell into the water and sent her home because she couldn't bear it. Mia was full of jealousy towards this little girl, with a naive impulse like fighting for her father's love. At this time we remembered that she was only a fifteen-year-old child. But she regretted it in time. Connor's slap was like a father's lesson to his daughter, which made the chaotic and lonely Mia sober her determination to find a way to life.

Perhaps the fish tank that the director wants to show is the invisible bondage imposed on Mia's body and mind. In order to break free of all this, the fish-like girl did not hesitate to jump out of the fish tank, but fell into a waterless state that the young mind could not handle and bear. In the end, I can only travel with boys of the same age and go to the distant ocean to find freedom in my heart.
