"Attack from the Bottom of the Sea" is the tip of the pyramid in the submarine warfare movie, and it can be said to be a double peak with "U-571". I watched the 5-hour unedited final version of the director. It was long, really long! Unlike Hollywood movies, which only like to show off computer stunts and promote personal heroism, German films also adhere to the rigorous, low-key, and realistic Germanic nation. If you are realistic, you will mistake it for a documentary. Viewers can even notice subtle changes in the growth of the actors' beards as the film's storyline progresses. There is no justice and no evil, only the boredom, loneliness, fear, despair and destruction of people in war. The film uses the confined space of the submarine to maximize a series of psychological thriller effects. In this film, the war has been separated from its essential meaning, and it is more like a process of life growth. Staying in a dark cabin, listening to the sound of the propeller hitting the water from the destroyer, amplifies the fear infinitely. When the destroyer stopped overhead, the rumble that penetrated the heart was even more soul-shattering. As if this was the end. In order to avoid depth charges, they dived through submarines beyond the psychological bottom line that each crew member could bear. Every time a depth charge exploded overhead, the people in the submarine would roar hysterically, or pray to God. And every time you escape the tears and cheers after death, you are waiting for the next death crisis. I am particularly emotional about such a bridge section. U96, who has been floating alone on the sea for more than 40 days, one day actually saw his own submarine in front of him. The captain of the other side standing on the observation deck was just before the voyage. An old friend who was partying at the club one day. He was standing on the opposite submarine waving his hand wildly, but because of the wind and rain, he couldn't hear what he was shouting. The vast sea actually met, but they could only wave each other’s hands and parted in a hurry. The mixed feelings at that moment were full of the meaning of life... And when the U-boat that finally survived the catastrophe and successfully completed the mission dragged the scarred hull, and The crew of a ship who was on the verge of mental collapse finally arrived at the military port. The red carpet to welcome heroes has not yet been rolled out. However, U96 and a ship of officers and soldiers have not been able to escape such a fate. I really have to say this. Really fate. The ending left me speechless. It's a pity that the little people have to obey the big history, but this can't hide the wonderfulness of the film itself!
