there are better movies...

generally i have no interest in movies that depict the life of some talented singer and his struggles with fame and drugs. walk the line drew my attention simply because reese witherspoon "outperformed" felicity huffman in the oscar race.

i'm a fan of felicity huffman and i assume anyone that could beat her must be able to liven up a movie with a stunningly powerful performance. but i was wrong. walk the line is probably the first serious movie where reese played the leading role . her past work is mostly cheesy chick flicks. well, maybe it's not fair to make a preconceptional judgement. but the truth is, the character she played, was not a very difficult and challenging one. she handled it ok, although it could' ve been sculpted better. the directing of the movie kinda hindered the potential that could've been tapped to make the oscar award more worthy of the name.

anyway, i lost my patience two-thirds the way through it. in my eyes, it's just another mediocre hollywood attempt in exploring struggles and pain in life. reese witherspoon should be happy for successfully upgrading her track record with such an easy hit. i kinda like her, though.

CCTV-6 finally released a movie that can be watched, and it is still an original sound theater, not bad. Reese Witherspoon is also pretty sweet sometimes. By the way, on the second day after watching this film, I also finished the three-day house in Yecheng Hotel, and finally set off on the Xinzang Line to Ali~

75/100. Ordinary biopics are about the same as love. The song is good, and the two main characters acted well. A love story in music history.

Walk the Line quotes

  • June Carter: [Sees John eating peanuts] Can I have one?

    Johnny Cash: Yeah.

[Takes a peanut out of the bag and holds it above June's mouth]

    Johnny Cash: Open your mouth...

June Carter: [June opens her mouth, but John snatches it away and eats it]

    June Carter: John!

Johnny Cash: I'm sorry, I'm sorry... here.

[Takes another peanut out of the bag and holds it over June's mouth]

Johnny Cash: Open your mouth... Open your mouth...

June Carter: No... I don't trust you...

Johnny Cash: Oh, June don't say that...

    June Carter: I don't...

Johnny Cash: Yes, you do... now open your mouth...

June Carter: [June opens her mouth, but John snatches away the peanut from her again]

June Carter: [Playfully hits John] John, you are a mean man! You're a mean man, and I knew it... I knew it all along...

  • June Carter: [Looks at John, singing] Ya you're goin' to Jackson, you big talkin' man...
