classic narrative trick

I have to say, this one is better than the last one. The logic is stronger, the ending is more surprising, and the story is more complicated. As a sequel, the quality of this film has made a great leap on the basis of the previous one. Among them, Tempest Villa, narrative tricks, the final logical reasoning solution, and the use of a large number of elements of mystery novels make this film more characteristic of a mystery movie.

In the sequel, Ray Warner puts 8 strangers in a game of death, through each person's reaction to death and the various unreasonable behaviors shown in order to survive, the human nature. The dark side is more deeply excavated and unfolded before the eyes of the audience.

Like the previous one, this film is still very thought-provoking. From the dialogue between "Jigsaw" and Eric, we will find that in fact, for "Jigsaw", he did not intend to kill those people at all. He just wanted to let those who don't value their own lives know how precious life is. Let them know how much it costs to live. Every game is like a condensed life. It's just that what does a person do when he knows the date of his death in advance? Is it to seize all the time to live a good life, or to use the rest of the time to prolong your life? Most people will probably choose the latter. And because of their obsession with life (or fear of death.) they may do everything they can. even hurt others. But, in the end, even if they get a life extension, the most precious time in life is gone forever. In the days after the extension of life, they will drag the already dilapidated body through it with difficulty. Those who choose the former will use the only life they have to make their life very fulfilling. And because they cherish life more, they can be more kind to themselves and others. Even if he eventually dies, he has no regrets and can be liberated. And make their own life from another aspect to be extended. Sadly, however, there are very few such people. Even the "jigsaw" that seems to see through everything is just like what he said about others. Howe doesn't cherish his only remaining life. What he did was just the reason he used to preach and even punish others. This has to be said to be an irony! In fact, if everyone can follow the "jigsaw" prompt and make reasoning calmly, then everyone's survival rate is very high. But in the face of death, how many people can be peaceful? As a result, mutual suspicion, attacks and even massacres made several people who should have had a chance to survive go to a dead end. Like "Jigsaw" says, he never killed anyone. Yes, those people were killed by their own weakness of character. So the only one who can always treat everyone kindly becomes the last survivor. Of course, some might think that was the intention of the murderer. But I think if he behaved like everyone else, he might not have lived to the end.

The film uses two visuals to show the whole story. One is from the confrontation between the police and the "jigsaw" to explain the reasons for everything. The other is through the description of 8 people surviving in the secret room to illustrate the progress of the event. It can be described as a "cause" line and a "effect" line. Since the first part already knew the identity of the "jigsaw", this time the high-IQ prisoner appeared in front of the audience early. However, knowing the criminal does not mean that you can easily watch the film. The feeling of heartbeat can still last until the last minute. Even someone like me who guessed part of the truth early was shocked by the ending. This is inseparable from the successful use of narrative trickery in this film.

In addition, the ending scene of this article is actually the main scene of the first part. This one blows my mind. Adam, who has been dead for a long time, and the feet cut off by Dr. Lawrence actually gave me an inexplicable intimacy.... This has to be said to be a bright spot.

Saw II quotes

  • John: Some people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you... not anymore.

  • John: Hello, Xavier, I want to play a game. It's similar to the game you play as a drug dealer, the game of giving hope to the desperate. I think we can agree that your situation is desperate, so I'm going to offer you hope. By entering this room, you have started a timer on the door in front of you. When the timer runs out the door will be locked forever, locking away the antidote inside it. If you want to find the key, you will have to crawl through the same squalor that your customers have. I'll give you one hint where to find it.

[Xavier and Daniel move a bed frame, revealing a pit full of hypodermic syringes beneath]

John: It will be like finding a needle in a haystack.
