One film reviewer went so far as to say, "The Veteran is not so dark by comparison. He is excusable."
The foreshadowing of the co-authored movie is all air? The heroine was abused by her mother since she was a child and locked in the trunk of the car. What a psychological shadow for the children. The heroine's mother, who had no money to buy a pizza, even joked about her daughter that she gave oral sex to make money. Mom's boyfriend (son?) doesn't work either, just waiting for the hostess to support her. There is also a little sister at home, and the heroine wants to take her sister to live a good life with herself. Therefore, her motivation for robbing veterans is to escape from the disgusting and suffocating native family, not only to escape by herself, but also to take her lovely sister with her. You tell me it's called Darkness? Isn't that justifiable?
She is stupid, you can call her stupid, but how is she "bitch"? Did she seduce Alex? (Don't tell me telling a ladybug story in the car is a seduction) She didn't want Alex to go, but she didn't force them to stay, didn't Alex go anyway? He heard the gunshots and came back, which is really commendable, I also like the male lead, I appreciate everything he does to protect the female lead, he is wishful thinking, I don't understand how this makes the female lead "bitch" "Come on... It's not just money, it can be said to be the only chance for her and her sister, she is in Detroit. (If the heroine is replaced by a man, and the family background and motives remain the same, I guess not many people will scold "he" for seeing money or being a bitch. Maybe some people will praise him as a good American brother and go through fire and water for his sister.)
Well, if we have to compare, let's compare.
Crimes of the heroine: robbery (so the back kill of the veteran can be regarded as self-defense), intentionally hurting the veteran (because the heroine is an intruder, even resistance is unreasonable)
The "reason" of the heroine: the shadow of childhood, the persecution of the original family, for her sister
Veteran's crimes: Imprisoning the rich girl, raping the rich girl (I don't know what it is, but the girl did get pregnant involuntarily), imprisoning the heroine, preparing to rape the heroine (the behavior of the veteran here is obviously not self-defense )
Veteran's "reason": Daughter dies
It's over, what's the result? The veteran and the heroine are half a catty.
I admit, I really don't like the old soldier, an old man, who imprisoned the girl and used his own inferior (don't, no matter how good he was when he was young, he was old when he was old) to get people pregnant, this is not dark, who is dark? This can be taken out to make a movie alone. But the heroine and the others broke into private houses and robbed them, and they didn't deserve much forgiveness.
So, are veterans poor? pitful. Isn't the heroine poor? The director didn't even give a few shots of the veteran's tragic story, nothing but a photo of his daughter, a newspaper in the hands of the imprisoned girl. But the director specially gave the heroine two scenes to render her tragic fate, one in her home and the other telling the story of ladybugs in the car. There are still a group of people who can't get used to the heroine. I really don't understand how your empathy works, is it gender-specific?
In the end, I don't want to be more pitiful than anyone else (although it's already more than hhhh...), I want to say that there are several film reviews that double-standard behavior really makes me angry. The movie looks pretty cool, and there are a few bugs, but it's really good that the two sides kill each other in the end.
