Thirty years later, what will you be like when you return to your hometown?

The classic movie we are going to review today is "Paradise Cinema", which has been released for its 30th anniversary.

"Paradise Cinema" tells the story of a boy named Dodo and the cinema projectionist Evert in Sicily, a small town in southern Italy.

About friendship

An obvious thread in the film is the friendship between Dodo and Evert. A child and a projectionist who squatted behind the glowing window of the cinema all the year round became friends because of the film .

The movie doesn't tell much about Evert's experience. All we can see is him hiding in the cramped, dimly lit room, guarding the constantly running projector. The film is endlessly stretched and folded, but his life is trapped in these small rooms of several square meters. What has he been through? we do not know.

The appearance of a lot is like a light that illuminates a small room, just like a projector illuminates a screen. Their lives have since been intertwined because of this black and white negative.

Duoduo made up for Evert's empty heart, and Evert filled the vacancy of his father more than his friends in Duoduo's life . When Duoduo was young, Evert rode him around the town on a bicycle; when he was lost, Evert urged him to leave the town and find a wider world.

About life

Evert has been confined to a small town all his life, and he doesn't want to repeat his regrets. The movie trapped him here, and made him understand more things outside of it.

"Life is not the same as a movie, and life is much harder than a movie."

"If you don't go out for a walk, you think this is the world."

about love

Duoduo's life is bounded by the departing train , which is broken into two pieces. Half is his beloved hometown, relatives and lovers, and the other half is the unknown future and confused love. When Evert asked Duoduo to leave, he resolutely said that he should not come back before he made his grades, such as "let me hear your name", but the director turned his head and let the priest chasing the train leak Ai. Ford has a deep love for Toto.

In the public release version, the love line about Duoduo is relatively vague, but in the director's cut version, we can see Duoduo's love completely. He fell in love with a girl whose status was far from his own, and waited for her like a guard waiting for the princess downstairs. However, this love is still in vain. The two reunited many years later, only to find out that the two missed it was Evert.

If the two hadn't missed it, would they have harvested the perfect love? If Duoduo hadn't left this town, what would their life be like?

But life doesn't have so many ifs.

In our life, we often imagine many what-ifs after a decision. "If I had..." "If I had chosen...", it seems that thinking about it like this can make up for my regrets.

And the director has long given the answer to this question. At the end, in the kiss scene clip that Evert gave to Duo Duo - the ultimate perfection, only imperfection.

  • Salvatore 'Toto' Di Vita - Adult: When did you close it down?

Spaccafico: Six years ago in May. Nobody came anymore. You know better than I, Mr. Di Vita - the economy, TV, videos. The old movie business is just a memory.
