Such a classic film is always difficult to introduce.
Three time periods, different ages, different moods, and different feelings for the viewers.
I seem to be most easily moved by this kind of film that covers at least half of my life, "Forrest Gump", "The Shawshank Redemption", "Legends of the Fall"...
All the actors in this film are very good, child Toto, Young Toto, middle-aged Toto, Alfredo, Elena, middle-aged Elena, Toto's mother, old Toto's mother...
Children's Toto is a clever ghost, cute and messy; young Toto's love is just beginning; middle-aged Toto sighs with emotion.
When I heard that Afredo passed away, Toto returned to his hometown for the first time in 30 years, got off the plane, looked at the elevated highway, the vicissitudes of life, my tears could not stop falling.
The entire structure of the film and the countless details, including the shots, the soundtrack, and more, are great.
My only complaint is the last paragraph. Sorry. Sorry. I couldn't even help it imagine an ending that would satisfy me. Life may be like that. By the time you really see it, it's all gone.
I watched the director's cut, which was three hours long. I heard that the main difference between the release and the release version is the one after middle age. Maybe I'll really like the original better. A relationship has regrets, and revisiting or trying to recover it will only make it more regrettable.
What can I say? Life is not like that, you can't help but arrange it, and you can't help but like it.
Sometimes I also fall into deep memories, as if far away, but once so real. It turns out that I have lived so many days to miss.

Cinema Paradiso quotes

  • Salvatore 'Toto' Di Vita - Adult: Elena, perhaps in the future we could...

Elena Mendola - Adult, Director's cut only: No, Salvaotre, there is no future. There is only the past. Even last night's encounter was just a dream. A wonderful dream. When we were young, we never did it. Do you remember? Now that it has happened, I can't imagine a better ending.

Salvatore 'Toto' Di Vita - Adult: I'll never agree with you. Never.

  • [to Elena]

Alfredo: Out of the fire of love come ashes. Even the greatest love eventually fizzles out.
