Thanks to Cameron for making "Bombshell" on the big screen

Thank you Mucheng Yukito for creating such a beautiful killing angel

gun dream

"Gun Dream" is a very niche comic, but it is one of my favorite comics. My basketball uniforms are all No. 99, because Gary (Alita) chose No. 99 in the mobile iron ball.

The first time I saw Yukito Kijo (Yukimura)'s "The Gun Dream" in high school, I was deeply fascinated. The future, the robots, the big-eyed killing angels with amnesia, the cyberpunk style, and the dystopian storylines all blew my mind.

After reading the manga, I couldn't wait to look for its animation on the Internet. I only found a few small clips on Tudou.com, and it was very different from the plot in the original book, which made me very disappointed.

I heard a long time ago that Cameron was going to put "Gun Dream" on the screen, and I was very looking forward to it. Today, I finally waited! Can't wait to go to the theater and meet Gary again.

battle angel

Alita

The response to this movie was not very good, and everyone seemed to think that the plot was too simple. In fact, the movie also shot 1/3 or 1/4 of the plot of the comic, and it was adapted from the department, and about 70% of the plot is faithful to the original. Cameron ended up not directing the film, but Yukito Kijo participated in the writing.

On the whole, although "Battle Angel" has changed the names of the characters and cities, and added some debatable plots (some filled in the holes, some superfluous), but the movie has a high degree of restoration of "Bombardment", I still I will give the movie a good rating, maybe 7.5 to 8 points.

Compare the sky city of Salem and Salem:

Compare Gary and Alita

Contrast the moment the doctor discovered Gary

Compare the battle scene

Contrast that with Gary playing a motorized iron ball

From the above pictures, it can be seen that the reduction degree of the movie is really high, and it is really attentive, which makes the fans of the original book very moved.

Although the story is simple, it is still complete and passable.

Of course there are also some disadvantages:

First of all, the crazy doctor Roja (Nova) who madly transformed other people's bodies (which can be understood as Orochimaru) has become the big villain in the movie, and he can control other people's brains to travel back and forth. . For this, the doctor's ex-wife was added, and a plot of the evil female doctor's reincarnation was directed, which is really unnecessary. I think the real villain in the comics is more meaningful than this crazy doctor. I hope it can be reflected in the second part.

Due to space limitations, the storyline is very short. This film roughly builds the world in which Rigary is located (Robot-Scrap City-Salem), and the story of Gary's early experiences. Therefore, it is a pity that the mobile iron ball chapter was passed by, the reason for Hugo's dream was not explained, and the secrets of the people of Salem were not revealed. The plot is a little weak.

Gun Dream-Battle Angel

Gary

Let's talk about comics. Gunmeng, gun is an ancient firearm or a metal punching tool, which probably represents the future society - the era of robots in the novel. Gunmeng, the two words together have a punk-style beauty.

Gary constructed by Yukito Kijo is so beautiful. Although she is a robot, the body constructed by the comics is full of beauty. Find two original pictures:

In fact, the image of Gary is quite simple, with a round face and big eyes, fluffy short hair, and a perfect figure (when wearing a leather jacket and a cape, it is omitted to draw a mechanical body). The combat moves are also very simple - there are countless lost Mars, mecha skills, no special moves (the author can draw them at will), in short, it is very similar to Chinese Tai Chi - four or two, especially good at fighting cumbersome enemies.

What attracts me most about "Gun Dream" is not Gary, the beautiful girl, but the world constructed by Yukito Kijo and the thinking brought by the story.

Scrap City is very cyberpunk, with abandoned buildings, poor people, gloomy rain, cyborg people, and even dogs are cyborgs. When I saw the rainy part of the movie, it was very emotional.

Salem is a city in the sky, and no one knows what is there. The underground factories continuously feed the energy of the scrap iron city, and Salem throws garbage in return. No one can go to Salem at all, as in the movie, if you win the championship, you can go to heaven. It's pure nonsense. Some people, like Hugo, longed for Salem, and then died for their dreams; others, like electricity, formed an army, declared war on Salem, declared war on inequality, and finally failed miserably.

Saleem is like "big brother", with supreme power, monitoring and controlling everything below. From this point of view, it is quite dystopian.

The people of Salem are noble by nature, always on top, only to discover in the end that they are actually a computer puppet. The greatest fear of mankind in the future, artificial intelligence rules mankind!

In the end, this comic gave me a question, what exactly counts as survival and what counts as death?

In addition to normal human beings in the book, there are many modified people on the ground. They are semi-mechanical. Maybe apart from the brain, the rest are machines. So there is a concept that as long as your brain is not dead, whether your body is physical or mechanical, you are alive.

But in the last book, the Sarem people were revealed. When the Salem people are 19 years old, they have to perform a rite of passage—cutting the head, removing the brain, storing the memory in a chip, and then removing the memory of the operation.

It's scarier here if your body is your own, but your brain becomes a chip! Although the memory is still your memory, are you still not you?

Expanding the two situations in the comics, let's imagine this picture. At a certain time in the future, technology will develop infinitely. When you get old, the doctor first replaces your body with a robot. After a few years, the brain can no longer hold on. The doctor copies your memory into a chip and installs it on the robot.

OK, you got immortality, but the current "you" is still not you?

finally

Satisfied with this movie, I love this manga very much, both of which are recommended for everyone to watch
