Rebellion in the afternoon

Life always surprises you with unexpected surprises, at least that's what Sonny thinks.

Sonny, who had a good family life, robbed a bank one summer afternoon to raise money for surgery on his gay lover.

After the police surround the bank, Sonny takes the hostages and engages in a tug-of-war with the police.

A small bank robbery became a farce, and TV stations rushed to report it, and young people gathered to watch and even support Sonny's behavior, scrambling to cheer for him.

The hostages and Sonny also mingle, seem to get along in harmony.

Behind the farce, it reflects the rebellious culture that was popular in the United States at that time. Young people no longer obey the rules and regulations, but advocate freedom, irrationality, and anti-tradition. Young people are called "Beat Generation". Homosexuality, for sex, for all rebellious things set off great enthusiasm and worship.

Kennedy's assassination, the Vietnam War, the popularity of hippie culture, Nietzsche's proclamation that "God is dead", young people at that time were bohemian and used their blood to sway their youth recklessly.

At the end of the film, Sonny is arrested by the police and imprisoned, but what he represents is the younger generation in the United States. When a Sonny is arrested, there will eventually be thousands of Sonnys emerging.

Don't go gently into the good night, listen to the dogma given to you, and use your own way to explore the world and find yourself.
