I have never been very interested in religious horror films. I have also watched another film "Hereditary Doom" by the director of this film. I feel that the director seems to have a soft spot for religious themes. Compared with the senselessness when watching "Hereditary Doom", the movie "A Midsummer Nightmare" really brought me a different viewing experience.
First of all, in the film "Midsummer Night", the director's style has been well continued, that is, the beginning of everything is calm and a little trivial. But as the progress of watching the movie increases, you will become more and more aware of the unease and terror hidden in this calm.
Secondly, can you imagine that in a horror film, almost 90% of the scenes take place in bright daylight? In this film, there is no convoluted soundtrack, no blurry figures, and no grimace that suddenly pops out to cover your face. It is said that shameful things should be done after dark, but if you put them in the bright sun, it will make your back even more chilled. Aiming at this, "Midsummer Night" is simply a breath of fresh air in a number of horror films.
Aside from the cult scenes behind, the Haga Village in the movie is really like the Peach Blossom Garden written in the text:
But the difference is that the fisherman in Peach Blossom Spring finally went back and told others about his adventures. But in the movie, as long as you come to Haga Village, there are only two endings, either stay or die!
Spoiler alert
1. About Haga Village
Let's talk about Haga Village first. In my eyes, it is an ant nest. Just like worker ants and soldier ants, everyone here has their own division of labor, and there is no idler. The life of the villagers is both mechanical and harmonious, and the people in the village have no privacy. Even if they are adults, they still sleep together. The union of men and women must be approved by the elders. ...especially the unique empathy tradition here. You cry and I cry, and you laugh and I laugh. A group of people live as if they are one person, really like a huge ant colony.
Having said that, an ant colony always has an ant queen. In my opinion, the ant queen of Haga Village is the highest will of the whole village, and the common goal of all people - to maintain the privacy and prosperity here. This sentence dominates the actions of everyone in the village and leads to the story of the entire film.
In addition, this society has its own set of philosophies that can be justified: a person's life is divided into four seasons, the spring at the age of 0-18, the carefree children; the summer at the age of 18-36, the youth who enjoy the experience; Autumn at the age of 36-54 is a middle-aged person who is in a mood to work; winter at the age of 54-72 is an old age who guides life. After the age of 72, even if the yang life is not yet over, one must voluntarily commit suicide by jumping off a cliff and not add any burden to everyone. Only in this way can one die with dignity. The part of the cliff ceremony was too impressive. As the first high-energy scene in this film, the ugliness of Haga Village began to be revealed little by little from here. (Breaking your head and getting a headshot with a sledgehammer is a dignified way of dying... just kidding me)
2. About British couples
In the film, the British couple, who I think are soy sauce roles, have a strong sense of presence in the cliff ceremony. Their three views are the most correct, but they are the first to be cannon fodder. I think the reason must be that they do not understand the Chinese philosophy of "see through but not speak out", and they are too excited and unsteady, which makes the Haga people realize that they are impossible to surrender. Yes, then since it is not available, then kill it. In the end, the men were tortured and the women were murdered and sacrificed.
3. Little black brother and pee brother
These two people perfectly explain what it means to be immortal, and in short, they are not very sympathetic. . . But these two people are the two people with the most goal and the clearest purpose in the whole film. Brother Xiao Hei is an academic dog with a strong thirst for knowledge. He holds a computer to write papers every day. In the end, he was KO'd because he wanted to steal the Bible from the village. As for the pee brother, it is even more targeted, that is, to find a girl, find a beautiful girl with a thin waist and long legs to go to the great harmony of life. However, he didn't look very smart, and he went to urinate on someone's ancestral grave. Who else would they get rid of if they didn't get rid of you! In the end, I was hooked by the girl and left, and then the game over.
4. About Christine
The male protagonist of this film, as the heroine's boyfriend, although he has no feelings for the heroine, he is indecisive and can't break up, but he has fulfilled his responsibility and did not leave when the heroine is the most sad. I feel that Christine is in a daze all the time, and seems to be the most confused person in the whole film. Unlike Brother Hei and Brother Piss, he was full of purpose for his trip to Northern Europe, and it seemed that he decided to go only because he wanted to get rid of the heroine temporarily. The theme of the thesis was only determined later, so I had to tear up with the little black brother. In the end, he was drugged in a confused way, had sex with a woman in the village, and then was sacrificed by the heroine in a confused way. In short, he was a very tragic character.
5. About Dany
The protagonists in horror movies usually have rough lives, and Dany here is no exception. She has a worried sister, a boyfriend who doesn't care about her, and a relationship full of burdens. . . Then the younger sister fell ill and not only committed suicide, but also took away her parents, destroying the whole family overnight. (I seem to see a big miserable character written on the heroine...)
So Danni is not a female classmate without a story. At the beginning of the story, she is full of loneliness, and the male protagonist's friends think she is a "big trouble". This is also the reason why Pil is eyeing her, because this fragile person is simply too good to start! As expected, Dany started to break down just by flickering, and hurried to the bathroom to cry.
I won't go into details about other plots. In short, Danni, like everyone else, expressed resistance to some things in Haga Village at first, but after she was successfully elected as Queen of May, Danni was on the road of being robbed by xi nao from Haga Village. Can't go back... Think about it carefully, in fact, the beginning of the film lays a foreshadowing for the ending. For the tragedy of the family, I think Danny harbors resentment in her heart, hating her sister not only for not cherishing her own life, but also for murdering her. Parents; on the other hand, they hate that since everyone in the family has been taken away, why not take me away. But in Haga Village, everyone will be her "family", and no one will silently abandon her. She is welcomed and accepted here. If you cry, everyone will cry; if you laugh, everyone will laugh. After the family passed away, her boyfriend became Dany's only support, and witnessing her cheating was the last straw on the camel's back. Danni was completely devastated, and finally chose to sacrifice her boyfriend, taking the initiative to cut off her only connection with the outside world, thinking a little. This means that she voluntarily became a part of Haga Village, so she was relieved, her face no longer felt the vulnerability of the past, and she showed a bright smile from the heart.
finally!
All these horror movies teach us that when a half-baked person mysteriously tells you that he knows a "fun" place and asks if you want to go, we must not hesitate and be firm and firm. Answer politely: No! Thanks!
