Science fiction is thinking about life and human nature on a larger scale of time and space. I wonder if the film has given the wrong answer...

First of all, I have to say that this film is not ugly, and there is no big problem with mixing time.

But movies aren't just about killing time. After killing time, I was a little confused.

The genre of science fiction is basically using other time and space to discuss reality, in a longer time dimension, in a larger space dimension, to see if we have different choices.

Well, now the choice is in front of you:

"You are destined to be the President of the United States, and she is destined to become a nationally famous ballet dancer, provided you can't be together."

What do you choose? together? Still not together?

Interestingly, the logic here is very similar to the logic of my horoscope. The best horoscopes are never those that are all smooth aspects, but those that are complex, full of contradictions and challenges, but at the same time. A horoscope with all kinds of help and hope.

The movie says "If you're together, you'll lose motivation because of your satisfaction with life" (to the effect, I forgot the original word)

It must be stated that this is a fact. What really makes people grow is not the good times, but the adversity, the adversity that can be overcome step by step through one's own efforts.

So what do you choose?

As an older person, I was hesitant.

The world always overestimates some things, like love.

The world also always underestimates things like ambition and ambition.

I think if it were me, give me three years, I would still choose not to be together.

However, the film made them make a choice, even if they were to be together with the angel.

"Together" is really a powerful instinctive force.

In fact, love is an instinct at all. will pass over time. Don't tell me there is a love that lasts forever, that's because friendship, family affection and the spirit of contract replaced love and became the bond between the two before love disappeared.

So, if it's really about giving up bigger ambitions for love, I'm sorry, but I think the movie gave the wrong answer. It's not very different from those who choose not to think about tomorrow in order to take drugs. (Ok, I apologize in advance, the analogy is not very appropriate)

But does the film really give the wrong answer?

Is it really just love that Matt Damon is desperately fighting?

I don't feel sure.

There is something more important than ambition, called belief.

As a politician, the most important beliefs, at least I think the most important beliefs for politicians are: independent thinking and free will.

In fact, the most important thing is not to choose such an old-fashioned thing in love or career, but whether you have the right to choose and the will to fight for the right.

Even if the final choice is career, it is my own choice, not the manipulation of my destiny by angels.

From this point of view, I think this is the real answer given by the film.

It is a pity that the final success is still the exemption of the "Archangel" and the modification of fate.

Thinking a little deeper, is free will really just an illusion? All our choices are actually in our destiny, which was written...

terribly contemplative...

I always feel that this film doesn't seem to be that deep, so I gave it four stars.

The Adjustment Bureau quotes

  • Harry Mitchell: [talks to David] You're going to look for her, aren't you? You won't find her. They'll make sure of it. Even if they weren't trying to stop you, there are nine million people in this city. You'll never find her. Forget about her. Move on with your life.

  • David Norris: What ever happened to Free Will?

Thompson: We actually tried Free Will before. After taking you from hunting and gathering to the height of the Roman Empire we stepped back to see how you'd do on your own. You gave us the Dark Ages for five centuries... until finally we decided we should come back in. The Chairman thought maybe we just needed to do a better job of teaching you how to ride a bike before taking the training wheels off again. So we gave you the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, the Scientific Revolution. For six hundred years we taught you to control your impulses with reason, then in 1910 we stepped back. Within fifty years, you'd brought us World War I, the Depression, Fascism, the Holocaust and capped it off by bringing the entire planet to the brink of destruction in the Cuban Missile Crisis. At that point a decision was taken to step back in again before you did something that even we couldn't fix. You don't have free will, David. You have the appearance of free will.
