"Ip Man 2": Conquering the Vulgar with the Vulgar

"Ip Man 2" is definitely not a creative film. No matter in terms of structure, drama or the design of the scene, there are indeed too many things it inherited from successful experiences-including others' and own- —But it’s more of your own. The success of "Ip Man" was actually an accident. From the production cost to the production cycle, the film did not seem to have thought of causing such a sensational effect. I still remember that the film was in theaters when it was released two years ago. Was squeezed quite badly by "If You Are the One". Unexpected success not only brings unexpected flowers and applause, but for creators and bosses, it is inevitable that a hidden speculation will grow quietly. "Ip Man 2" very frankly draws on the successful experience of the previous one. There are many examples to illustrate this point: Ip Man's low-key and wife-loving will of course be further magnified. Of course, in this respect, the two dramas The characterization is complete and unified. But in addition to this, the design of characters like Zheng Zeshi is completely based on Lin Jiadong’s official translator's lines; Genge, played by Ao Jianian, is the Qingquan played by Ren Dahua in the previous movie; and the ubiquitous eating passages It proved that the director Ye Weixin continued to implement the family concept in "Ip Man" in the film; Yen Zidan ignited a patriotism because of the death of Master Hong Quan as a member of the Western boxing champion, and made "Ip Man" too obvious. The audience could see this-no one irritated Ye Wen with death. How could Ye Wen go crazy? At the same time, the end of "Ip Man 2" uses the stage show to make the climax, and it seems that the freshness is not enough. In fact, the stage show is not just a problem with "Ip Man", but with action movies such as scene designs that have been around for a long time, and it is really difficult to innovate. Compared with the arena duel at the end of "Ip Man", "Ip Man 2" at least follows the climax mode in the classic Kung Fu film, allowing the two high gestures to compete for a long time, instead of letting the final foul angle lose too fast like the front part. Playing too fast will make the audience unsatisfied. From this point of view, it is actually not a bad thing to follow the experience that has been successful. For some fixed viewing patterns, if you break too much and deviate too much, it will be counterproductive. Therefore, the experience duplication at this time will inevitably involve a "degree" problem. How to inherit successful experience, how to break the old and create the new, how to calculate the accuracy and rhythm of the play, should not use too much force, nor can you fail to grasp... It is indeed extremely difficult and exquisite. The cooperation model between Ye Weixin and Donnie Yen actually had the experience of accidental success and intrigue routines before. The first co-operative film "Slaying the Wolf" was an unexpected success, and the subsequent "Fuse" was a modelized version. Not much better. Therefore, "Ip Man 2" must be taken very carefully. After all, bead and jade are ahead. It is very risky to challenge new routines in commercial terms. Therefore, it can only be upgraded and processed based on previous experience, but it has been inherited too much. It may be self-defeating, which is the danger of this movie. In terms of the accuracy of copying routines, I think "Ip Man 2" is quite a good grasp. Although it is obviously new wine in old bottles, it is still possible to start from the plot and place various experiences "within reason", so that the integrity of the whole drama can be preserved. To give an example, in the upper part of "Ip Man", it was the death of Master Liao that spurred Ye Wen to express his power. Master Liao was a "loyal and upright" little figure. He was shot and killed by the Japanese, which could easily arouse sympathy. Therefore, the "Challenge Ten" drama after Ip Man is provocative and reasonable; while in "Ip Man 2", it has changed. In the first half of the game, he also tried his best to make things difficult for Ye Wen. At this point, if you continue the old path of "Master Liao", the dramatic effect is obviously impossible to be reasonable. Therefore, in the arena, the whole process of the Western boxing boxing champion killing Master Hong, there were many shots of Master Hong being shot in close-up shots. The upgraded lens emphasized how Master Hong was beaten. The aura forms a contrast, and it becomes powerful in rendering the atmosphere. On the contrary, if Master Hong and Master Liao were killed by a single shot at this time, the dramatic atmosphere and provocativeness would be difficult to accumulate, and it would probably be a failed routine. In the same way, Huang Xiaoming's role is, to some extent, used to dissolve this "legacy" power. It's like when Ye Wen was preaching, Huang Xiaoming used the phrase "I was thinking" to eliminate the rebellious effects of the audience that Ye Wen's preaching might cause, but it would make people smile. "Ip Man 2" is indeed a popular film, it is just a kind of "typified" creation, but in the "typified" creation, the calculation and some details of "Ip Man 2" make people feel new. You can't resist, the whole drama is smooth and beautiful, and the effect is like a fist, hitting the emotions of the viewer. This strategy of subscribing to vulgarity is like Ye Man’s attack on the middle of the boxing champion. It works. Why not do it? 【163】
