Firefly's Sadness

For some reason, I recently wanted to watch some movies and write about my feelings. This first post is dedicated to the tragic Grave of the Fireflies, a film that subverted my 20-year-old notion of anime, and a film that broke my heart and made me cry and think at the end of the film .

===================================================== =====================================

"On the night of September 21st, I died." The boy's soul coldly announced his own death, the tone was normal and simple, as if it was just falling asleep. This is the first line of the film, and then the souls of the two brothers and sisters reunited, accompanied by the fireflies flying all over the sky, began. Pulls us into the beginning of the whole story in a reminiscence way.

In the middle and late period of World War II, the United States launched air raids on Japan day and night. An air raid killed Seita and Setsuko's mother. The two brothers and sisters have been dependent on each other since then. The poverty and lack of food made them fed up with the neglect and scorn of the family, and they had no choice but to move out to make a living and live alone. They moved into an abandoned hole by the lake, where their 14-year-old brother and The younger sister, who is only 4 or 5 years old at most, is struggling to get by with the little savings she has. During this period, she also learns that her father, who was a soldier, has long since passed away. Life became more and more difficult, Qing Tai was beaten for stealing things, and the brothers and sisters hugged and cried. The two were hungry all day long, and eventually the lively and lovely Setsuko was malnourished, and became increasingly haggard until she became ill. In the end, Setsuko passed away forever on a night when fireflies were flying all over the sky.

The film is filled with sad and depressing tones from the beginning to the end. The raging flames licked the whole city frantically. Desperate people escaped, the painful expressions were fixed on the scorched faces, and the maggots nibbled the dead. The body, which is not seen in other animations. On the other hand, Setsuko's innocence and cuteness, sensible and well-behaved, and Seita's strength are poking our hearts all the time. The film is interspersed with a few warm pictures, but they are so few that you can count them with your fingers: there is a picture of two brothers and sisters going wild with their mother by the sea in the past; a family of four is happy together in the season of cherry blossoms. There are scenes of Qingta feeding her sister fruit candy, playing with her at the beach, bathing her, and catching fireflies together, but these scenes not only failed to bring me the slightest comfort, on the contrary, they hurt my heart even more. It reflects the misery and cruelty of the moment. From the beginning, I guessed the ending of the death of the siblings, but when I really saw Setsuko closed his eyes and couldn't open them, the sadness in his heart was beyond words, more precisely, grief and anger. The last sentence Setsuko said before his death was "Brother, thank you." After that, the picture turned to the memories of Setsuko: playing alone, holding a dirty rag doll, and holding a fan to give The stove was lit, a man sewed up the sheets with a needle and thread, pierced his little hand, licked his fingers innocently, and tasted the blood... Who can suppress the sorrow in his heart without tears when he sees this? ! Maybe it's just my own experience.

I will show this video to my friends so that they can share with me the pain and the thinking after it. But I will never watch it again. First, this animation deeply shocked me, and I will never forget it. Second, my character is unwilling to watch such a sad movie again, as if the pain of the movie will turn into something that I can't do myself. annihilated wounds.

Finally, I would like to talk about some piecemeal thoughts after watching this film. This film has caused a lot of controversy on the Internet. On the one hand, it is the tears of sympathy left by many people, and on the other hand, people think that Japan is to blame They are not worthy of sympathy and should not be treated as victims of war. In my opinion, this tragedy is a microcosm. In any war, there are countless similar tragedies on both sides of the war, regardless of victory or defeat. The reason why this film is sensitive is because of the eight-year Anti-Japanese War. More to say. But this is a good movie with an anti-war theme. War brings us disasters, and it is always right to try to avoid unnecessary wars.

Then I want to talk about human nature. This movie also reveals the depravity of human nature and the cruelty of society. Even if the aunt of the brothers and sisters is a little more tolerant and sympathetic, and the uncle of the peasant is a little more generous, the tragedy may be avoided. , but this is just an assumption that the world is really lacking love. The whole world is like this, especially in China today. People are blinded by desires and interests.

The reason why I say that this animation has subverted my view of animation is because the animations I watched before were either funny and humorous, or passionate, full of hard work, struggle, freedom, friendship, justice, and the ending was happy. . This anime, on the other hand, exposed the cruelty of war and the bleakness of life, and made an astonishing sensation. Lu Xun said that tragedy is about destroying the valuable things in life for others to see, thereby arousing the grief, indignation and admiration of the audience, and achieving the purpose of improving ideological sentiment. This anime does this perfectly. It dares to let the lovely and sunny hero and heroine die, and the whole family is dead. It doesn't give us a happy and happy ending at all. I think it may be easier for anime to express such vividly colored films, because the colors of anime can be richer, and the depiction of anime characters can be more tense and expressive, which is difficult to achieve in real movies. As for the gap between Chinese and Japanese animation, there is no end to it. This movie was released in 1988, and is it more than a hundred times stronger than the current domestic animation? ! China has fallen behind the island nation Japan in many fields of culture. This is not a foreigner, but a fact. As for the reason, it must be cultural control. Everyone knows the reason after that!
