[Single Man], Colin Firth plays the calm life of an old gay. The movie looks very like Wong Kar Wai, and there are middle-class petty tunes everywhere. In Tom Ford's shots, everything is perfect, from costumes, props to film soundtracks, and even the actors are not ugly. This film is a personal show of Uncle Colin Firth's acting skills. He found the perfect balance in kissing men and flirting with women. In the hands of Tom Ford, the most handsome and talented comrade in the fashion industry, Uncle Firth's old face turned sexy. Tom Ford is truly a master of eroticism in the fashion industry.
His partner Jim died in a car accident in 16 years, taking away everything in George's life. He picked up the gun and tried to commit suicide, but he always had no courage. He plucked up the courage to finish the last day of his life, but he didn't expect a walking dead to finally find the courage to live. But George, who stopped trying to commit suicide, died of a heart attack at the end.
It's not that no one cares about him anymore, but the one he loves the most has gone. In George's memory, from his encounter with Jim, travel to home life, although they are just a few simple pictures, they constitute a perfect life for a petty bourgeoisie. They are not always entangled in self-identification like the pair in [Brokeback Mountain], but two people enjoy life to the full. Tom Ford did not describe too many fragments of the lives of the two people as in the original book, and did not allow Jim to appear in George's memory too much. He just selected a few fragments, leaving enough imagination space to satisfy the audience's desire. That is everyone's ideal life, enough to set off the reason George wanted to commit suicide after losing his lover.
On the last day of his life, he opened up and talked about fear with his students. Kenny, the student who had a crush on him, had fiery eyes and tried to walk into George's life. His sister Tao Charley gave a private dinner to try to break George into a straight person, but her efforts were not even as good as student Kenny's instigation. Kenny urged George to come to the beach and swim naked, and the lifeless middle-aged man seemed to be angry again. After Kenny's series of strip shows, George fell asleep because of exhaustion and woke up to see Kenny, a little boy sleeping on the sofa. Everyone thought that Kenny would walk into George's life and fill in Jim's blank, but the sudden death pushed everything to tragedy or perfection or eternity.
I always feel that only death can make George's life perfect. It's just that Tom Ford doesn't bother to give everyone a [Paine's Labyrinth] ending. That will only turn everything into a tragedy, and then let the viewer deceive themselves and others, and build a perfect ending. [Single Men] There is only one old GAY calmly heading towards the end of life, without worry, and suddenly like that. The old and helpless loss may not be bad, but for those who love others, everything is still so helpless and regretful.
[Single Man] It's like a super long and exquisite commercial film with determination and self-admiration. The ideology of the bourgeoisie floods the lives of the characters in the play. With regard to ideal love, ideal life, and perfect partner, the lack of one of the three is hell on earth.
It's so delicate and perfect, I really want to live like George. Although there is only endless heartache!
PS: The three paragraphs in George's memories-love at first sight, sunbathing and reading on the sofa are simply perfect life. And the partner is Matthew Goode! ! !
PSS: I really like the nude photo of Matthew Goode as a prop.
PSSS: The role of George is always reminiscent of Tom Ford, who has always been a man in his love life. He and his reporter boyfriend Richard Buckley are both Xiaozheng Tai who came over under the influence of "A single man" author Christopher Isherwood. Tom Ford's lover Richard Buckley, who has been "stronger than marriage" for the past 20 years, is not an idle man. He is the editor-in-chief of the famous "Vogue Hommes International" (but he has resigned on February 4, 2005). This kind of solid relationship between the two of them has always been praised by the fashion industry. There is a small detail. Tom Ford wanted to adopt a child, but Richard Buckley strongly opposed it. Now Richard Buckley and Tom Ford are starting a new venture together. They are still in a stable relationship. What's more coincidental is that Tom and Richard also have a dog named John.
