I got it from the movie on the 11th holiday. I would like to use this article as a commemoration. It is a serious spoiler.
This is a somewhat hypocritical film, and all kinds of well-designed baggage and metaphors are used as a fuss when you are not careful.
On the snowy night, the male protagonist met a beautiful girl he had known for a long time in an unfamiliar city. After a meal of red wine and delicious food, the girl took him back to the hotel to sleep with the wine, and the love erupted like a torrent. The girl's family is so rich, and the family doesn't care about objections. She and her mother are forced to turn against each other. She has to come with him to the Texas countryside where birds don't shit, and live a happy life of firewood, rice, oil and salt.
The fairy tale will end here, but the cruel life will not stop. The loving couple finally broke up. The girl can't live in poverty, can't stand the silence and repression of the husband who lives in the house, she pursues her heart honestly, left the country, and came to another city where she was drunk with money, and fell in love with another more sunny and handsome man. Indulge in the artwork and the reception. After a long time, it is inevitable that the new husband and the same bed have different dreams. At that time, it is inevitable to think of the ex-husband who started writing in the countryside and made money to become a professional writer.
The heroine can't sleep well, it has been the case since the beginning, her ex-husband calls her a nocturnal animal. Nocturnal animals are tangled lives, wandering between black and white, in a dilemma. Pain would surround her like a shadow, leaving wrinkles around her eyes, scars that even the best makeup can't cover.
Rather than saying that their love was lost to bread, it was better to say that they lost to that tangled and chaotic nocturnal animal. She really didn't know what she wanted. Who hasn't been young yet, who hasn't been hurt by someone they love when they're young. The longer you spend together, the deeper the damage will naturally be, and sometimes you can't get up. The ex-husband writes and sells books, and quietly continues to be an otaku in the Texas countryside.
One day almost 20 years later, the ex-husband sent the manuscript of the novel to be published, scratched the girl's finger, and the blood stains indicated that it was probably a thriller. After being abused for 20 years, the male protagonist decided to say goodbye to the unbearable past in a heavy way.
The book is written for girls. When the plot of the novel is inserted in the movie, the otaku and the girl act as the characters of the novel. The hero and heroine in the novel are actually the hero and heroine in the movie.
The story tells the story of a family of three in New Mexico and Texas, who were bullied by three bad guys, and eventually their wife and daughter died naked and bizarrely on a red sofa.
The sheriff, who had lung cancer and hated evil, helped him find the three bad guys that night, one of which the male protagonist was unwilling to face, and the other two eventually died at gunpoint. The leading eldest brother among the bad guys knew the male protagonist's weakness well, and hurt the male protagonist before his death. In the end, the male protagonist completed his revenge, but he also lost his life.
This is an inexplicable, metaphorical story. It seems to be a criminal investigation case, but it is actually a dirge of love and sorrow written by the male protagonist with his spiritual life. The area around New Mexico and West Texas is very desolate. It is not uncommon to encounter gangsters who kill people while driving at night. Either don't drive at night, or get a better car to drive at night. But his car is very old, otherwise the three rogue mustangs will be left behind with a kick of oil. This dilapidated car is a symbol of the poor material life of the girl and the otaku in the countryside.
The male protagonist of the novel is full of tendons, but he is weak in the face of the bullying of the bad guys. This is exactly the projection of the male protagonist's weakness in the display and in the emotional world of the two of them. In the movie, the otaku and the girl once had a child, and the girl killed the otaku behind her back. So, in the novel, their daughter suffocates to death.
The name of the novel is actually Nocturnal Animals, and the nickname given to the girl by the otaku is Nocturnal Animal. Obviously this is another metaphor, and the plural nocturnal animals can easily be understood by readers as the three bad guys who bullied them in the middle of the night. And these three villains, I understand, are the spiritual projections of the heroine, or other lovers in reality. Because the heroine and her daughter were raped and killed by three people in the novel, probably the otaku wanted to express his dissatisfaction with a double metaphor. In his heart, he was more inclined to think that his own weakness made his woman snatched away, his daughter strangled, and his woman was not completely willing.
One of the three men was caught by the sheriff and sent a photo to the male protagonist. The male protagonist didn't want to see the man's face after opening the attachment on the computer, and ultimately did not testify against the man. I think this is probably because this man is a mutual friend of the two of them in life. The male protagonist euphemistically expressed that he was very clear about being cuckolded, but he didn't want to say it, and he didn't dare to face it at that time.
The heroine ended up with maybe the guilt after confession (I don't think she got out of the black and white tangle) and she asked her ex to dinner again. This time, Zhai Zhai was very stubborn and didn't make an appointment.
This story is over, this is perhaps not so rare in reality, indescribable tangled love story. The weak and obedient party, and the chaotic party who doesn't know what they want, have been entangled for half a lifetime.
I can't see what deep philosophy of life this story can bring. Like many works of art, existence is a kind of beauty. Beauty is something that must always please you, and it may be poignant.
Regarding the pursuit of the heroine, I think the author has an obvious negative evaluation. The inexplicable close-up of several fat strippers twisting their bodies at the beginning of the film may be a metaphor for the heroine's obsession with vulgarity. For the otaku protagonist, I really feel that growth is not absent after all, and those who kill you finally make you stronger.
Choice is the poison pill that fate sends to people, the source of suffering. Those who know what they want should be souls blessed by God and blessed by Buddha.
The composition of the original film, framing, scenery, and the makeup of the characters are very exquisite, and various metaphors are also one after another, which is worth brushing several times.
