When you love someone, you have to be careful with it. You might never get it again.
—Edward to Susan
When you love someone, you have to work hard, you can't just throw it away, you have to be careful, or you won't get it again. So in the end, Susan went from being full to the guests, without waiting for her Edward, who had been separated for 19 years.
In this movie, I was impressed by three points.
The first point is Susan and her mother. Susan hated her mother and thought it was a very unpleasant thing to be like her. But in his marriage to Edward, his mother's advice came true. "What you admire about him now will be the reason you hate him in a few years" and arguments about "weakness" and "sensibility". "Time will tell, we will all become our mothers eventually"
The second point is Indy. At the beginning of the film, I thought that India's middle finger completely angered the three gangsters, which led to what happened later. But after seeing the back, the police proved that the same carjacking time took place, and I knew that, with or without Indy's middle finger, this tragedy would still happen. But at the end of the film, I started to doubt it again.
In the cabin, the thugs said, "I hate the crimes people put on me. If you think I'm a rapist, then I'll rape you." Maybe at first, they just wanted to rob the property, which took a spare tire from Edward , they stared at the luggage on the ground, which can be seen. But their behavior may make the three gangsters feel imposed, coupled with the surrounding environment and their character, which led them to do the latter.
Just like Edward and Susan...
The third point is the ending of the film. Edward in the novel collapsed outside the wooden house. In reality, Susan was soaked in the water, and her heartbeat became weaker and slower until it stopped. Edward in the novel is finally dead, no need to live in the torment of weakness. In reality, Edward has long since died, and he doesn't love her anymore. Weakness dies, and sensibility ceases to exist.
Or can it be summed up as a 19-year revenge plan for weakness made by sensibility?
"Don't worry, I'm putting up some emerging L.A. artists in the gallery, and people will think we're on the cutting edge of the mainstream and won't think we're going bankrupt. You won't be ashamed."
"How can I be unhappy? I have everything, and being unhappy is like being ungrateful."
"Enjoy the absurdity in the world and suffer a lot less."
"Sometimes too big a change is not a good idea."
"I'm just, very unhappy."
