Pass of the strong, epitaph of the weak

The weak have the way of the weak. If the weak really won by becoming stronger, that would be a satire of the weak in itself.

To everyone who has, it will be given to him, and he will have a surplus; and from anyone who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

The first movie that made me think about two coffee breaks after watching it. It's not because the previous movies couldn't stand up to pondering, but in the past, either simply enjoyed the reunion of this comedy, chewed on the sadness of tragedy, shook the inspirational agitation, or even thought was completely to solve the suspense. This kind of drama may be turned off in less than 20 minutes. Sorry for those dramas I missed before.

The movie itself, to be honest, the plot is not very exciting, if it is not obsessed with Tom Ford himself, or Jake Gyllenhaal, it should not be able to watch. A love story is an uncommon blow to reality, and a personal tragedy is a vengeance that doesn't push away from the puzzle. Having said that, when I think of this movie, it turns out that when I was shopping, I found that the first Tom Ford counter in the Northeast would be opened next week...

About this movie, going back three years, even a year ago, I probably wouldn't have thought so much about it. The two lines are interspersed, and my first reaction after reading it is: what do these two lines have in common? Why are they interspersed together? Obviously there are two stories! ! I really can't bear to let the 100 minutes squeezed out in vain, and I still want to analyze it on the spot.

The first story line (the past of the heroine and the hero):

The heroine (I really don't like Amy Adams, and I'm even more embarrassed by her mature, dark, arrogant look on the show) seems to lead a rich but unfulfilled life. The villa has a sea view, and there are a lot of servants. The husband is handsome and rich (usually, this kind of man is either a flirtatious person or likes domestic violence. Fortunately, her husband is the first type), and he is shrewd and capable. With the expression on his face like a zombie, the three words unhappiness are written on his face. One day, I suddenly received a letter from my ex-writer husband, with a new work and an inflammatory love letter attached to the letter. The heroine couldn't help but open the novel and began to read it at night (because she is a nocturnal animal, that is, a night owl, the kind who can't sleep at night). While reading, I recalled the past of her and her predecessor, from the Stanford school flower in the past to the current fashion devil who wears Tom Ford and keeps Zhou Zhiruo's nails.

So how did she turn herself into the devil she is now?

The heroine comes from a famous family, and her parents are both sophisticated celebrities, who are also strict with their children and have high expectations. With her brother kicked out of the house for being gay, she naturally shouldered all the expectations of her parents. Like her mother, she has a strong personality, soaring in prestigious schools and becoming a goddess in the eyes of everyone. This kind of tough-guy woman is easily attracted to the male protagonist of temperament and art. After graduation, they met in New York by chance, and the male protagonist was taken home by her that day. Despite her mother's dissuasion from marrying him, she firmly believed in the greatness of this gentle man. As a result, soon after she got married, she found that the male protagonist could not meet her life plan. He is gentle and delicate, but has no plans (talking about plans with liberal arts students??); he loves writing, but he can't make a blockbuster; he concentrates on writing, and he loses opportunities for further studies and has no income. Under the blow of reality, she found that the tenderness she once loved was weakness, and her sensitivity was powerlessness. She doesn't love this person anymore. Coincidentally, now her husband appeared at this time and gave her a solid arm in a luxury car. She killed the child with the male lead, and left the male lead in the car. As soon as you enter a wealthy family, it is as deep as the sea, and 20 years pass by in a blink of an eye. Now, she lives a seemingly wealthy life, but her financial situation is on the verge of collapse, and her husband is also having a blatant affair. After reading the novel sent to her by the male protagonist, she kept thinking of the past, the good things of the male protagonist reappeared in front of her eyes, and she fell in love with him again. At the end of the film, after reading the novel, she wiped off her heavy makeup and decided to meet him .

Second Storyline (Fictional):

This is the story in the male protagonist's novel, interspersed with the female protagonist's reaction to reading the novel and the female protagonist's memories. A virtual man drives his wife and daughter around Texas at night. The male protagonist likes this kind of deserted road, and it seems that it is not the first time to drive. America, you know, there are guns everywhere, kills, perverts, punks, and unfortunately they were met by the virtual male protagonist. The gangster deliberately ran on his car on the road. His daughter gave the gangster the middle finger, and it turned out to be a big deal. A few people blocked their family in a dark night called Tian Tian Ying, calling cars and cars non-stop, no birds and no shit at all. The punks were divided into two groups, one group left with his wife and daughter, and the other group (just one person) followed him in a car. In an instant, the car of his wife and daughter disappeared, and he was kicked out of the car soon after. During this period, the gangsters came back to find him once, but he didn't dare to say a word. In the end, he found a small hotel and called the police. A police detective who did not look like a police detective helped him find the bodies of his wife and daughter, who were lying face-to-face naked on a broken sofa on the way. superior. Both his wife and daughter were raped and killed. He was deeply saddened. A year later, the detective found a clue and asked him to identify the murderer. After identifying the murderer, the detective finds out that the murderer may have been released for dirty political deals, and wants to join him in justice. They caught the murderer, but he didn't have the guts to shoot. The murderer took advantage of his unpreparedness to run away. In a hurry, he killed one and ran away. Chase, chase, chase to the small house. He fell into the trap of the gangster, and in the end, although he killed the gangster with the advantage of his weapon, he was also blinded by the hook of the stove, stumbled out of the house, and then committed suicide.

So what is the connection between these two stories?

Both stories refer to "weak," weakness. If there are "weak" ones, people can naturally see which ones are "strong", even if they don't mention them.

When the female protagonist decided to marry the male protagonist, her mother strongly opposed it, saying that the male protagonist was "weak", but the female protagonist firmly disagreed. She believed that the male protagonist was very powerful in some places where she was not strong. For example, when it comes to the gay brother (who is also a friend with the male protagonist), the reaction of others is to be shocked and avoid it, but the reaction of the male protagonist is regret, not knowing whether his previous actions made him sad. His starting point is always the feelings of others, not his own reactions. The male protagonist has no prominent family background, no social status, and is regarded as a "weak" in society. People on earth are most demanding of evidence. Only money and power can prove human strength. What is the intuition of a person who loves you? After all, it is only one of the fickle intuitions of women. Under the guidance of this very routine, the male protagonist lost his love.

The virtual male protagonist, although not mentioned in the middle of the story, gave people a feeling of "incompetence" from beginning to end, and finally the gangster said that he was "weak". The virtual male protagonist was more physically weak at first, and later psychologically weak. His physical weakness made him unable to protect his family. Even if he rushed forward, he was beaten and lost his wife and daughter. And his psychological weakness in revenge prevented him from taking off the gun decisively, and finally lost himself.

The weakness of the two is like fateful powerlessness. The most important things in life, love, family, life, and the male protagonist are lost both in reality and in the virtual world. Perhaps, the weak are doomed to have nothing. The strong get stronger and the weak get weaker, this is the law of nature.

However, the weak can retaliate against the strong in other ways. The second theme of the film is "revenge".

In reality, the way the male protagonist wins back the female protagonist is not by earning full royalties, buying a bigger house, driving a better car, and putting on a more gorgeous appearance, because then he is nothing more than the strong bastard who took everything from him. He still uses a weak method: the heroine originally thought that he could only write about himself and could not be a writer. This time he wrote about others, but the heroine could see through all the common emotions at a glance. The heroine once left him, but this time it was for him to ignore it. The virtual male protagonist lost his life, but in the end he also avenged the killing of his wife and daughter. In the sun, he held the cross and smiled, thus reconciling with the world. They are still the weak, in their weak way.

Maybe neither kind of revenge is happy enough, but the power is like an endless wave, beating and tumbling all the time. I love stories where the weak beat the strong, after all, if the weak really won by becoming stronger, that would be a satire of the weak in itself.

Nocturnal Animals quotes

  • Bobby Andes: So, I'll tell what we got, we had a attempted to round up at a supermarket and mall last night just before closing. Caught one of the guys, one got killed, one got away.

Tony Hastings: What you want me to do?

Bobby Andes: See if you can recognize the one we caught. You can look at the dead one too, although I don't really think it's necessary, we know who he is.

    Tony Hastings: Who?

    Bobby Andes: Steve Adams.

  • Bobby Andes: It's gonna be rough on them out there, not knowing how it's gonna come. Maybe Ray get killed, for resisting arrest, or coming at home late at night, might get shot by a burglar.
