A successful revenge or not

Deeply intrigued by the two intertwined breathtaking stories being narrated at the very same time, with so many metaphors linked to each other in between. I would say the very way this movie unfolds is so intriguing and innovative.

Truth be told, quite a lot of things are hanging around in my head as the story unfolds, about love, about family, about betrayal and redemption. Unlike many readers who may reflect on more about their own love stories—that true love should be cherished and once lost, you may never be able to get it back again, I kept thinking about the unshakable bond between every individual and their family. When we were young, we tended to judge what our parents did in our own naive or even cynical way, only to find that we grow up more like them. That applies pretty well to my own experience and now I am glad that I have the courage to admit there is the same dark side deep down in my mind, and that I could be able to live with. To be realistic is just one way to live and should not be judged by others who choose the opposite way, and vice verse. To be romantic, from my perspective, is a blessing from god and I admire those idealists. But that doesn't mean the realists should be condemned for their pursuit of a better material life. Everyone has the very right to choose the way that he or she wants to spend his or her life with. Just live it as you choose and NEVER regret it.

As for the theme of revenge, so obscure to be delivered from this movie, I simply holds a different perspective. For me, revenge is just meaningless. You will never be happy or relieved or be able to get back what you have lost, by revenge. Revenge may be a punishment to those who deserve it, but it just does no good to those who exercise it. Forgiveness is a hard choice, but it is the choice that can finally set us free. We spend our whole lives gaining and losing, loving and hating, struggling and compromising. But in the end the one we try so hard to compromise with in this world, is never those we hate, or those we love, but ourselves...

  • Bobby Andes: So, I'll tell what we got, we had a attempted to round up at a supermarket and mall last night just before closing. Caught one of the guys, one got killed, one got away.

Tony Hastings: What you want me to do?

Bobby Andes: See if you can recognize the one we caught. You can look at the dead one too, although I don't really think it's necessary, we know who he is.

    Tony Hastings: Who?

    Bobby Andes: Steve Adams.

  • Bobby Andes: It's gonna be rough on them out there, not knowing how it's gonna come. Maybe Ray get killed, for resisting arrest, or coming at home late at night, might get shot by a burglar.
