The name of the movie is "Nocturnal Animals", and the book published by the male protagonist is also called "Nocturnal Animals". Nocturnal Animals is the nickname he gave his ex-wife. But I don't think the movie is really about Susan.

The story of the film is more about the pain of the hero Edward and his relief after venting his pain with writing.

He used a book to show his cowardice to his ex-wife, and the torture he experienced because of cowardice. Tony in the book lost his wife and daughter just like him, and his daughter was tortured to death. He didn't accuse or accuse him, he just wrote the pain to those who hurt him. The woman who hurt him must have felt guilt in her heart, and she was even willing to meet Edward again, but the reason for her to meet Edward again was more because of the current marital crisis than guilt for Edward. She saw Edward's pain, but she didn't really understand him, and it could be said that Susan's love for Edward wasn't that deep.

At the end of the movie, Edward did not appear in the restaurant, and he made the right choice. When the person who hurt you knows your pain, she doesn't really feel remorse, do you still want to forgive?

The movie has already given the answer, no!

Nocturnal Animals quotes

  • Bobby Andes: So, I'll tell what we got, we had a attempted to round up at a supermarket and mall last night just before closing. Caught one of the guys, one got killed, one got away.

Tony Hastings: What you want me to do?

Bobby Andes: See if you can recognize the one we caught. You can look at the dead one too, although I don't really think it's necessary, we know who he is.

    Tony Hastings: Who?

    Bobby Andes: Steve Adams.

  • Bobby Andes: It's gonna be rough on them out there, not knowing how it's gonna come. Maybe Ray get killed, for resisting arrest, or coming at home late at night, might get shot by a burglar.
