The subtlety of traditional Chinese-style feelings is always evident in Ang Lee's works. On the one hand, the pursuit always begins with the breakthrough of the ego. Just like ourselves, we hope to find a moral or rational explanation for ourselves to seek balance in our hearts before doing something. Li Mubai's pursuit of Yu Xiulian also started when he broke through his own outlook on life. He began to find that "cultivation" did not bring him the happiness he imagined, so he broke his precepts and went down the mountain. In real life, Li Mubai is an excellent, self-sustaining person who lives in his own spiritual life. He has good ability (martial arts), and pursues self-cultivation and self-realm (constant cultivation) as things and self-restraint (emotion). It should be said that Li is a typical representative of traditional intellectuals. On the other hand, traditional love may not have real passion but is full of real subtleties. For example, the love between Li Mubai and Yu Xiulian is full of confusion, ambiguity and subtlety. Li Mubai and Yu Xiulian are two people who understand each other and are attracted to each other. But they must first break the shackles of "friendship" between them. Yu Xiulian obviously knew Li Mubai very well. She knew her cultivation and pursuits so much that when Li Mubai changed his mind and pursued boldly, she still stood in Li Mubai's point of view and thought about him everywhere. Her love for him did not meet directly. He loved Li Mubai deeply. , but it seems subtle and depressing.
About Jade Jiaolong, it is a story about growth. Yu Jiaolong grew up in a doting and strict family of officials, and she faced the temptation of a blue-eyed fox. Therefore, Jade Jiaolong is a sensitive, intelligent and unfeeling person. She has insight into the officialdom, so she has insight into human nature, and hides her martial arts level in order to take care of the feelings of the blue-eyed fox. She can echo Yu Xiulian's hints and courteously please Yu Xiulian. As well as the allure of the blue-eyed fox, in many ways, Jade Jiaolong presents a diverse image of selfishness, indifference, well-behaved, witty and clever teenagers. And this image happens to exist in our life. If Yu Jiaolong fell in love with Guo Jing, she might be another Huang Rong, but Yu Jiaolong has a more paranoid and independent personality. I don't know which kind of education is effective for Yu Jiaolong, the family is obviously a failure, and Yu Xiulian's silent guidance and preaching eventually turned against each other. Li Mubai's words and deeds did not give her a greater shock. And the director seems to make up for this by deliberately arranging Li Mubai's death and Yu Jiaolong's self-consciousness. The level of technology can sometimes be compared in some ways, but the victory or defeat of the mind is difficult to achieve. True growth is always conscious and always must be achieved through one's own pain.
Among all the stories about growth, Jade Jiaolong is always a typical, a most contradictory model, because no one has conquered his heart, not the blue-eyed fox, nor the dead Li Mubai, nor herself, so in the end, she Choose your own free way. The contradiction between people's self and the environment is always the biggest mystery in growing up. Each of us lives such a contradictory and insignificant life. Maybe we should try Li Mubai's calm "cultivation" to find a suitable direction?
