Will Graham (Edward Norton) is an FBI investigator on a mission to investigate a serial murder case. When the murderer killed the victim, he had to cut off a certain piece of human tissue from the victim. Will suspected that the murderer had eaten the cut off part for some unknown spiritual reason. Because the murderer is very cunning and may have mental problems, Will turns to the famous psychiatrist Hannibal (Anthony Hopkins) to analyze the case with him. However, what surprised him was that the murderer was this seemingly elegant psychologist. Seeing Will as a pawn in his game, Hannibal deliberately leads Will astray, convincing him that the killer has some sort of psychological disorder, which often leads Will's work to a dead end. Until a chance encounter, Will realizes that the killer's purpose may be to eat part of the victim. He immediately found Hannibal to exchange opinions and asked why Hannibal didn't think of this. Hannibal realized that Will had begun to doubt him, so he wanted to kill Will, and both of them were severely injured in the fight. Hannibal was sentenced to life and placed in the Baltimore Psychiatric Hospital. Will retired and lived a life of idle clouds and wild cranes.
