Detective Norton is a completely flawless protagonist in the movie. He took his wife and son to the beach of Marathon to recuperate because of solving a major case. He must be full of self-blame all the time for the dangers his career brings to his family, which is also the weakness of the police officers and heroes in every similar film.
Mr. D, the criminal suspect, the villain in the movie. He was abused by his grandmother for harelip and bedwetting since childhood, which formed his twisted heart. When he felt love for the first time, he fell into an endless struggle, so much so that he sneaked into the museum to eat the painting with the red dragon. But he was a lunatic after all.
