There are too many movies piled up on the computer, and I plan to use the weekend to clean up, so I chose this "Atonement" to watch.
There are no subtitles and I am not used to the abrupt beauty of "British Rose". I only intend to go through it all in one go.
Briony, the Redeemer in the film -
some think she's too sinister, selfish, hypocritical to be forgiven; think she's a tragedy maker.
Some people can't understand why she blames herself for so long, the loss of life is a sin of history, and Briony as a "child" is innocent.
But I don't think Briony's "redemption" has anything to do with morality: she loved Robbie from beginning to end -
yes, no one will see love in the mouth of a 13-year-old girl, just as no one will really care about the script she writes .
As "child" and "miss", Briony's love is lonely, secretive, self-respecting, and full of pure fantasy. But this time, she saw her fellow sister "break into" her secret love story. In the distance, she saw her sister "tempting" her dream lover with her mature body; then she saw the filthy letter that "her lover" wrote to her sister by mistake - I didn't see Briony's tears, she It's just like running in the jungle like the wind, but I believe that the softness in her heart that is unique to children at this time must be shattered in an instant.
All this, Briony experienced in silence. What everyone sees is the progress of love between lovers, only she herself slowly digests the puzzlement and sadness in the dark. Until she saw Robbie and her sister in the dark, her veiled grievance turned into blatant anger, or abhorrence.
I believe that what Briony did to her sister was by no means "jealous", but convicted them of "guilty" in a "childish way". She couldn't confirm that the sinner she saw was Robbie, but she did think Robbie was a frivolous sinner.
Undoubtedly, 13-year-old Briony made a terrible mistake. But she did not forget it, but continued to reflect on this nightmare as she grew up, until she was mature enough to look at it-believing that such reflection was a kind of torture, repeating the nightmare of childhood.
After introspection, she finally realized her mistake and had no way to forgive herself, carrying "sins" all her life.
And the reason for "self-tortured self-examination", the reason for "carrying a lifetime of guilt that is difficult to let go of" is because she loves her sister, and it is even more difficult to forget Robbie - she has always loved Robbie. Years have passed, she still remembers His face still hurts when he thinks of him, and tears when he thinks of his kiss on his sister's cheek.
If she could, she would have wanted to give them the happiness they deserved—even if she was alone in grief.
In the imaginary meeting of the three, Robbie and her sister lived happily together - Briony's wish; they couldn't forgive her and let her go away - Briony's self-blame.
In the torrent of history, a small mistake can lead to irreparable tragedy. All we can do is grow bravely and never forget.
