silent confusion

I want to write an article about the movie viewing experience of "The Graduate". I don't know why I always feel deja vu when I watch it. This is a borrowing to describe the confusion of graduates. At the beginning, there will be some discomfort, but at the end, you will feel wonderful. This expression is perfect! The first thing I knew was his soundtrack, "The Sound of Silence", full of silent loneliness and seemingly agitated shouts, which fit the film's theme: confused and restless graduates looking for meaning in the future. There is a detail in the film. The protagonist Benjamin is sitting in an unfamiliar hotel, waving to the waiter, his tone is clumsy and stagnant, the waiter seems to be unable to hear his voice or see his existence. This is too real. The graduates' incompatibility with the outside world is vividly displayed through the effect of drama. We are like people with aphasia, who are often overlooked because of our lack of sophistication. We have no sense of security in this unfamiliar world, so we want to understand as soon as possible that we can manipulate it and grasp it in our own hands. We are eager to prove ourselves, eager to find meaningful things, and eager to get rid of confusion and integrate into this world. Ben's clumsiness is in stark contrast to Mrs Robinson's sophistication and shrewdness, and I think that's one of the reasons why Mrs Robinson appeals to Ben, and more of a search for authenticity Excited and eager to escape the confused mood, such a depraved incoherent love made Ben even more confused. The film looks witty and interesting. There is a scene where Ben is wearing a diving helmet and a wetsuit, standing silently looking at his parents waving their hands outside, silently moving, the noise outside and the sound of his own breathing can only be heard in the helmet. Ben, at this moment, Ben seems to have escaped the turmoil and anxiety of the outside world, and then fell into the pool. This world has nothing to do with Ben. Ben in the helmet feels that everything is quiet, and there are still cheering parents outside. Everything seemed too out of place. Ben fell in love with another young girl, and despite Mrs Robinson's objections, he tried his best to pursue this true love. Of course, he encountered many difficulties during the period. He never gave up, like opposing everything, regardless of anyone's opinion, and finally She fled with the girl she loved. There were innocent and beautiful smiles on their faces, like the success of the rebellion, but in the next second, the smiles gradually faded from them under the camera, and the confusion about the next thing reappeared in their eyes. Next, there is still confusion, silent confusion.

If the latter part is written as: Benn and Elaine get married, so that he can sleep with Mrs. Robinson at home, this film becomes an ethical film; after writing Benn's insight into the hypocrisy and vanity of the adult world, he can do it with ease, and finally change Become an empty and boring winner, this film has become black humor, and I like the latter one. As a satirical comedy, many shots of this film are set up very well.

Tells about the confusion, confusion, worry and rebellion of graduates, a youth elegy with mixed flavors. Mike Nichols won the Oscar for Best Director for this film. The composition and photography are exquisite and beautiful. The classic shots are a basket, several transitions and large-span push-pulls are very dramatic. The use of depth of field is even textbook-level. Dustin Hoffman's acting skills are beginning to show off. The finishing touch is thought-provoking. The two theme songs are like nature. (9.0/10)

The Graduate quotes

  • Mrs. Braddock: [Ben is shaving in his bathroom] Oh, my.

    Benjamin: Hi.

Mrs. Braddock: Hi, can I talk to you for a minute?

    Benjamin: Sure.

Mrs. Braddock: Benji... darling, I'm, uh... going to ask you something, but you don't have to tell me if you don't want to.

    Benjamin: What?

Mrs. Braddock: Well, I was going to ask you what you do when you go off at night.

    Benjamin: When I go out?

Mrs. Braddock: You don't have to tell me, if you don't want to.

Benjamin: No, I do, i want to tell you: I drive around.

    Mrs. Braddock: What else?

    Benjamin: Nothing else.

Mrs. Braddock: Well, you don't drive around from midnight til noon the next day, Benjamin?

    Benjamin: Oh, no.

Mrs. Braddock: Well then, what do you do? Do you meet someone?

Benjamin: [Benjamin nicks his finger with the razor] Meet someone?

    Mrs. Braddock: Hm.

Benjamin: Why do you say that?

Mrs. Braddock: Well, this is your business. I won't play games with you.

Benjamin: No wait, wait! I don't meet anyone, Mother, but why do you say that?

Mrs. Braddock: Benjamin, I don't want to pry into your affairs, but I would rather you didn't say anything at all than be dishonest. Good night.

    [Mrs. Braddock leaves]

Benjamin: Well, wait! Wait a minute!

  • Mrs. Robinson: [gets into Benjamin's car] Drive down the block.

Benjamin: Mrs. Robinson, Elaine and I have a date, we're going for a drive.

Mrs. Robinson: [angrily] Do exactly as I say!

Benjamin: [Ben drives down the block] Now, it seems to me...

Mrs. Robinson: Listen very carefully to me, Benjamin: You are not to see Elaine again, ever! Those are my orders, is that clear?

Benjamin: Mrs. Robinson, do you think...

Mrs. Robinson: I can make things quite unpleasant.

    Benjamin: How?

Mrs. Robinson: In order to keep Elaine away from you, I'm prepared to tell her everything.

Benjamin: [Ben stops the car] I don't believe you.

Mrs. Robinson: [threateningly] Then you better start believing me.

Benjamin: I just don't believe you would do that.

    Mrs. Robinson: Try me.

[Ben gets out of the car]
