Re-watching Contact, I just feel that the three-body description of the listener's life is very accurate

This is the loneliest moment, in the silent midnight, when the universe shows its listeners the vast desolation. The last thing listener 1379 wanted to see was the slowly moving curve on the monitor, which was the waveform of the cosmic radio waves received by the monitoring system, meaningless noise. He felt that this infinitely long line was the abstraction of the universe. One end was connected to the infinite past, the other end was connected to the infinite future, and there were only random fluctuations that were irregular and lifeless. The crests that are scattered up and down are like grains of sand of varying sizes, and the entire line is like a one-dimensional desert formed by all the sand grains lined up in rows. It is desolate and unbearable. You can go forward and backward along it infinitely, but you will never find your destination.

Personally, I don’t like science fiction subjects very much, but this is a really great science fiction movie, majestic and vast.

that awe, humility, and hope, the writing is so good, it fully expresses my feelings about the universe and science. It's really good, Jodie Foster's performance is unspeakably good, and those words are so moving by her. What's hard to express is that when I finally saw for Carl, I was suddenly shocked because this is a scientific film full of emotions. No wonder the emotions are so full. A very, very, very sincere movie

  • Richard Rank: My coalition's phone lines have been flooded with calls from concerned families, wondering if this message signifies the end of the world or the advent of the rapture. We feel that U.S. policy in this matter wants to be extremely conservative - if there's any chance of danger or threat to our way of life perhaps the message and its contents should simply be disregarded.

  • News Reporters: Reverend Joss! Reverend Joss, what do you believe? What do you believe?

Palmer Joss: [pause] As a person of faith I'm bound by a different covenant than Doctor Arroway. But our goal is one and the same: the pursuit of Truth. I for one believe her.
