It's never too late to be yourself

After watching the movie, I read the original novel that was the target of the adaptation, and read a lot of movie reviews, and I felt very disappointed overall. Many people are obsessed with the plot setting of the infinite loop of time, and ignore the humanistic value embodied in the movie, which is far different from the novel.
To be honest, the novel is actually very boring. It is an author who uses a sci-fi background to tell a bizarre and suspenseful story, and reveals the answer at the last minute. Like magic, it does look interesting, shocking, and will catch your eye for a while, but soon enough, you'll forget the story. Just like when the agent asked Jane at the beginning: "Have you ever thought about which came first, the chicken or the egg?" Jane's answer was: "It's none of my business." Yes, if it's just a time-reversal stunt, then This movie is like Minority Report, it's fun to watch, but it's none of my business.
But this movie is different. The movie elevates a story that doesn't really have any connotation. In fact, everyone has this idea more or less: if I did what I did, maybe I would not be so embarrassed now; or if I hadn't met that bastard, my life would not have been ruined by him, and so on. idea. So, as described in the movie, if there was a time machine, what would you do? Of course, such a setting is not new. "Butterfly Effect" has been played once, just to express that the future will not be as you think, and finally the protagonist chooses suicide to break everything. And this movie is different, it seems to focus more on the present. Are you really that bad now? When Jane told the story with the time agent, she said that since she was a child, she was a freak, trash, and garbage. She was ugly, no one liked her, and when she became a man, it was terrible, she couldn't drive, and she didn't know how to run a business. It sucks. Such a life is simply meaningless. But after going back to the past through the time machine, Jane or John, only to find that the past (in Jane's perspective, it is actually the present), the self-deprecating self, is actually beautiful. In the eyes of Jane in the past, the current self is actually Prince Charming, the perfect example of a man, "rich, handsome, gentle and considerate."
John said to Jane, "You're wondering why people get everything they want and you get nothing, you're tired of pretending to be strong...you always pretend that you don't care about feelings, You actually want it very much in your heart. . . . you've wondered why they don't like you? Maybe it's because you're better than them." It seemed to me that everything John said to Jane was like At the end of the film Alice says to the Time Agent (or John, for that matter) "Be yourself, do what you want, it's never too late." Don't look at other people's faces, that's what I wanted to add.
Of course, this movie also has a story, which is how to look at the past, which is actually the meaning of the future bomber. The time agent is very persistent, the mission has been completed, the bomb has been cleared, and the bomber has not been caught. But that wasn't his thing anymore. If the time agent had honestly completed his final mission, recruited new people (actually himself), and then retired and went home, he would never have been able to become a future bomber. It's a pity that he still can't let go of his obsession, and he can't help but go back and try to change the past in a time-space shuttle (this is actually the same as Jane or John's idea, worthy of being the same person). So he privately used the time machine to return to the scene of the incident, and only after that did he discover the timer and track down the bomber after he retired. In the same way, we can imagine that if the time agents still can't let go of their obsessions and continue to work as secret agents outside the Time Administration, then the time agents will become the bombers they hate, sooner or later. In fact, Jane is also the same, let go of the past early, let go of the space force, maybe everything will be different in the future, and she will not have such a future. It's a pity that I can't let it go, so the time agent and Jane go back and forth in this curse of the past.
In fact, at the beginning, when the time agent woke up, the two lines gave advice: don't mess with the past, think about what to do in the future. Here is an interesting thing. When the time agent pulled John back from his relationship with Jane, he persuaded him: "Don't think about changing the past, it's comforting to know how the past happened step by step." Unfortunately, he I can't do it myself.
Here are two easter eggs: 1. Do you still remember that bad song played in the bar? "I Am My Own Grandfather". It really goes with what the movie time agent does.
2. I especially noticed that the time agent traveled back to the time of retirement, July 7, 1975, exactly 4 months after the big explosion in New York that was originally thought to happen. In fact, the time agent who had just retired at that time had already let go of the past, and he deliberately chose such a time just to see the fruits of his long-term labor. As a result, as soon as he traveled through, he found that everything was normal, New York was safe and sound, and the protagonist Shu Xin was extremely happy, but it was found that the time machine function failed. Then everyone knows that the protagonist is tragic.

  • The Fizzle Bomber: If you shoot me, you'll become me. You get it? That's how it happens. If you want to break the chain, you have to not kill me, but try to love me again.

  • The Bartender: Here you are at the beginning of your new life. It can be overwhelming knowing the future you're about to create. Knowing the purpose of that life. You know who she is. And you understand who you are. And now maybe you're ready to understand who I am. You see, I love her too.
