Realistic version of Avatar prototype

According to my previous views on Avatar, it is interesting to think of a film that I went to the Film Archive to watch the night before, "The mission", which was also translated as "floating war", which was the Palme d’Or in Cannes in 1986. The works, starring Robert De Niro, Jeremy Irons, and Liam Neeson. Although I don’t know the overall quality of the works that were exhibited at that time, I believe that the level of this film is not up to the Palme d’Or standard. . But if you contact Avatar, it's very interesting. Because that is almost the actual prototype of the main story of Avatar.

In this epic religious adventure film directed by Roland Qiaofei, there is no shortage of typical protagonists, no lack of complex and grand theme settings, and even magnificent and beautiful pictures, although not as pure as Avatar. The new world created is so pleasing to the eye, but it is also suffocatingly beautiful, and there are even wonderful rivals of Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro (privately I think these settings are more convenient, and the exhibition is somewhat speculative. ). The plot describes the Spanish priest Gabriel, played by Irons, was ordered to set up a church for the "Guarani" people in the jungles of South America, while Mendoza, a slave trader played by De Niro, killed his younger brother who fell in love with his lover. Feeling guilty and willing to follow the priest’s preaching to practice atonement, but when the preaching took shape, the Portuguese and Spanish governments turned to ask the Guarani people to relocate their territory due to the colonial conflict. After being rejected, a bloody massacre was staged. Until the three protagonists who volunteered to stand on the side of the natives were martyred and died.

I have said that the conquest of a weak civilization by a powerful and admiring force of civilization has always had only one result, with few exceptions. Therefore, the priest's original devotion to ideals, loyalty to God, and sincerity to the natives who converted to Christ are more sincere. Moreover, in the end they died without hesitation or died in resistance or in the persistence of their beliefs, creating a great tension brought by dramatic conflicts. Gabeel’s martyrdom was loyal to his persistence, and Mendoza’s sacrifice was in struggle. Salvation was won, so in the end of the film, the bishop would say in reflection and guilt that the dead are immortal and the living are dead.

However, this kind of compassion is also unable to change the natural law of the "power is justice" of the Human Socialist Party. Avatar is a world created by Cameron on the planet Pandora. It is essentially just a dream and a dream with a happy ending. , And the purpose is to plunder the wallets of global movie fans after burning 500 million huge sums of money. Naturally, Cameron is not good at plot design. In fact, he hasn't grown much from "You jump, I jump" to "I see you". But this has never affected his amazing genius in visual creation, and the collage of rhythm control, detail control, excitement setting and other commercial elements to complete the miracle of the film on the commercial level. The level of pursuit is different, so Avatar can certainly break through various limits at the box office all the way, and even the Oscar, who has taken the middle of the road, is likely to surrender to the king of the world again, but Palme d’Or will only settle in cruel contrasts and a long aftertaste. And heavy humanistic thinking, this is the gap between dream and reality.

It is also a brutal story of greedy humans trampling on foreign civilizations. Missionary roles with different personalities make the story fuller. In fact, it has nothing to do with the doctrine. It is more about showing the preciousness and natural beauty of civilization itself, and making the ending even better. Obviously unable to accept. Young Uncle Tie, slender and weak, with firm and holy eyes, matched with Morricone’s music, almost every picture has its own light, like the incarnation of Jesus Christ...

I just went to the waterfall and went to many old Jesuit sites in Córdoba. After watching this film, I was shocked by the powerful ability to restore the Iguazu and Guaraní people. The character creation is actually relatively thin, including the handling of the opponent's scene and the emotional and logical transition of the characters. It is not that outstanding, but Robert De Niro's inner scene at the carnival is indeed unique, leading to a reasonable incident of killing his brother later.

The Mission quotes

  • Gabriel: Come with me to my mission in San Carlos. There's so many distractions in here. It's hard to see anything clearly. I think, that, there your prayers might meet with better fortune. I think, there, God would tell you what it would be good to do. And He'd give you the strength and the grace to do it whatever it costs you.

  • Mendoza: I want to renounce my vows of obedience.

    Gabriel: Get out.

    Mendoza: I want to explain...

Gabriel: Get out, Rodrigo. I won't listen to you.

    [pause]

    Gabriel: Just you?

Mendoza: No, it's Ralph and John too.

Gabriel: What do you want captain, an honorable death?

Mendoza: They want to live, Father. They say that God has left them, He's deserted them. Has He?

Gabriel: You shouldn't have become a priest.

Mendoza: But I am a priest, and they need me.

Gabriel: Then help them as a priest! If you die with blood on your hands, Rodrigo, you betray everything we've done. You promised your life to God. And God is love!
