are you really happy?

The brain is rusty lately, or the recent directors are very clever. The plot development of some movie works I have seen recently is always beyond my expectation. Many movies that I thought were comedies or cozy sketches were very sad in the end. "Journey to Family" is one of them.
The old widowed old man and his children are in other places. The only wish of the old man is that the children can come back more, and then the family can sit together and enjoy themselves. One reason is of course that the old man is even more lonely when his wife died, and there may be a trace of jealousy in it. Because when the grandmother was alive, the children often called home, and often came back to reunite. Now that the old grandmother has passed away, they don't call home often, and don't go home much anymore. Could it be that they love their mother more? I think fathers, especially fathers who are old and widowed, can easily become so jealous in their hearts.
Well, since the children don't come to see me, then I will go see them. Regardless of the doctor's objections, the old man set out on a journey around the United States (this description is a bit exaggerated). It was a pity that it didn’t go well at the beginning. The first stop of the old man was his son David’s house, but after a few days, no one was gone. The old man had no choice but to stuff the prepared envelope into the door of his son’s house, and then made a special trip. The eldest daughter's house. It is not difficult to see that the family environment of the eldest daughter is much better than that of David, very spacious villa, decent work. It's just that his grandson seems to dislike his father very much. The old man wanted to stay with his daughter for a few more days, but the daughter said something was going on. It was a bit like driving his father to another son. When seeing off at the train station, the old man asked his daughter, are you happy in life? The daughter froze for a moment and said that I was very happy, but this sentence was so perfunctory. After that, the old man received similar treatment from his younger son and daughter. The feelings between father and children always seem to be a little bit... embarrassing when expressing. For example, although the younger son did not let his father live with him, he followed his father to the station to ensure that his father had indeed bought the ticket and everything went smoothly. When he talked to his sister, he said: Actually, I have nothing to do tonight and tomorrow, but I just can’t let him stay here overnight, I just can’t. And it’s with the little girl, even though the little girl looks like him. The most dear one of the children, but the old man knows that the little daughter still has many secrets without telling him. She is still saying i'm happy in a perfunctory manner.
The old man was tired, and his medicine was crushed by a little gangster. He had to choose to fly home. The old man didn't like flying, and he had never made a plane. Unfortunately, the old man had a heart attack when the plane was about to land. When the old man fell into a coma, he had a dream. He dreamed that he was sitting with a few children together. He told every child that although they told him they had a good life, he could actually see everything: the eldest daughter and husband separated; the younger son did not go. European tour; the youngest daughter likes the same sex and already has a child. What the old man can't figure out is that they obviously have encountered so many problems in life, but why do they still lie to him that they are doing well? As for David, who he was most worried about, what he didn't know was that he had been arrested for buying drugs in Mexico. Later in the hospital, the old man finally woke up and the children were all gathered in the ward, except that David was missing. The old man asked repeatedly. The eldest daughter finally told the old man that David had died of drug overdose in Mexico.
In the ward late at night, a teenaged David appeared. He said sorry to his father. He said that I was sorry for you. I shouldn't force you to do things you don't like. David said it’s okay, you just have high expectations of us.
At the end of the film, Christmas is approaching, the children finally come back, and the family finally gathers together to enjoy the family happiness, but what a price it took to get all this.
No matter how old the child is, whether it is a college student or a family, even if it starts to have white hair, in the eyes of parents, children are children. In their eyes, you will always be the naughty teenagers. They always have high expectations for their children and look forward to their success, and they always feel that their children’s problems are still their own problems. They should not conceal it and should leave it to me to deal with. All this is not for the vanity of the parents themselves, all this is because of the parents' love for their children. As for the children, many times they insincerely said that I had a good life, but in fact there are a bunch of thorny problems that make people headache, but they just don’t want their parents to worry about it. They do it out of concern for their parents. Isn't love?
Only when necessary, these loves need to be communicated, and these loves need to understand each other. We all need to consider the problem more from the other side's perspective, instead of imposing our will on the other side arbitrarily.
I think I will still tell my parents insincerely that I am fine, but I will call them more in the future. As I grow up, my parents are gradually aging. For them, the only comfort is the children. Pay more attention to your parents.
ps: I always feel that Robert De Niro's appearance is a bit unnatural, some postures and expressions feel too deliberately pretending to be old. I don't know if this is because his capable images such as the gangster and the police are too deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
