see P&P again

I have seen the British second version of this film before, and I didn't like Mr. Darcy's actor very much at that time, and I felt that Lizzy laughed too much, and I felt that Kayla's teeth seemed to be a bit long, so the smile showed her shortcomings.

But because of my love for Austen and my nostalgia for P&P (this is the first masterpiece I read), I recently went to buy an extended version with director comments to revisit it.

Although I feel a little unfinished about the ending of the original British Second District, but now I see this lengthened ending, I feel that it is completely reduced to a Hollywood-style talent and beauty film, and the original ending is more in line with the British-style implicit style.

What is more interesting is that the director revealed a lot of small inside stories in his comments. For example, the actor who played Mr. Bingley was originally blond, but was dyed red by the director. The strange thing is that his hair is also red. Another example is when Lizzy ran
to the lake by herself after rejecting Mr. Collins’ proposal, and when the Bennets came to look for her, a flock of birds were flying in the water. But the flock of birds flying over the water was not deliberately arranged, but flew up just when they were preparing to shoot. The director didn't want to miss this scene at that time, and shouted on the set that Mr. and Mrs. Bennett, who were wandering around outside the camera, quickly walked into the camera. , Haha, it really is hard to come by!

In addition, the director also explained some details in the film when commenting. For example, in Mr. Bingley's dance party at home, all the ladies present were wearing white dresses. It turned out that this was the fashion of that era, and Lizzy was in the film. I only wore light-colored clothes twice. Besides this dance, I was visiting Pemberley. Lizzy dressed up to impress Mr. Wickham that day, but ended up impressing Darcy. The first part shows the personality of each character and the relationship between them through the movement of the camera, which hints at the future development. If you look closely, you will find many interesting places. Sometimes the expressions of the characters behind the camera are more worthy of your pondering. Great shot!
Also, Mary's expression before and after Mr. Collins proposed to Lizzy at breakfast showed that she actually hoped that Mr. Collins would propose to her, although I am a little puzzled by this suggestion, because it seems that the original There is no such meaning in the film, but the performance in the film is also very subtle, if it is not pointed out by the director, I really would not have found it.
I also thought of a time when Lizzy visited the sculpture studio in Pemberley. It turned out that Mr. Darcy's statue was made with a computer and did not exist. According to the director's intention, the other statues were intended to educate Lizzy for sexual enlightenment. , This is funny enough :P

The film does have many shortcomings, but at present I am still conquered by the soulful eyes of Darcy's actor, although there are many differences from the Mr. Darcy in the original book, But this warm version of Mr. Darcy is also enough to move people's hearts. Even Lizzy, the only dissatisfaction with her is her smile. I don't know why, I always feel that her smile should not belong to the lady of that era~~~~~~

Pride & Prejudice quotes

  • Mr. Bennet: Poor Jane. Still, a girl likes to be crossed in love now and then. It gives her something to think of... and a sort of distinction amongst her companions.

  • Mr. Bingley: This is a disaster isn't it!
