Faith is life

Accidentally, I watched another three-hour movie.

At first, I thought it was a movie similar to Braveheart. Just to learn more about some Jerusalem bite the bullet and read on.

It turned out that it gave me a question worth thinking about at the end.

When Balian surrendered, he vowed to fight to the end, and when the other party told him that he would not slaughter the city, he readily agreed to surrender. After Balian promised to surrender, the soldiers in the city gave him their admiration, in stark contrast to the queen's complaints against him. In our minds, the only recognition of a hero is to die in battle.

Reminds me of another sentence in the film, "In the name of fighting for God, snatch wealth and land." What is the fight for? Faith? Free? Is life more important?

director's cut 151119. The battle between the cross and the new moon lasts for thousands of years. It feels that in terms of casting, according to Ridley Scott's usual tendency of intertextuality between fiction and reality, Orlando Bloom, the crazy Orlando, is a literal reference to possibility.

Be sure to watch the director's cut version. . .

Kingdom of Heaven quotes

  • Gravedigger: [Sybilla has cut her hair and disguised herself as a common nurse] You are not a sister.

Sybilla: We are what we do.

Gravedigger: Then I'm a man who's traveled a long way to die for nothing. What would you say to that?

[Balian walks by and Sybilla turns away]

Sybilla: I would say that I'm sorry.

Gravedigger: And I'm sorry for you... Queen of Jerusalem.

  • English Sergeant: [walking along the waterfront at Messina] When we took the Holy Land, we took the Saracen trading ports. The Italian ships carry silks and spices... and pilgrims, if they have money. And Italy becomes rich, as the Savior intended.

Balian of Ibelin: [Balian sees a group of men praying on the beach] Who are those men?

    English Sergeant: Muslims. Saracens.

Balian of Ibelin: And they are allowed their prayers?

English Sergeant: If they pay the tax. "Subhana Rabbi'l Adhim."

    [he turns to Balian]

English Sergeant: "Praise be to God. It is proper to praise him."

Balian of Ibelin: Sounds like our prayers.
