Dustin Hoffman was a welcomer in New York, or to be precise, the person who took the coat when the restaurant entered. Later he was a blockbuster through graduates. Hoffman has a set of playing the little people in New York. If Pacino is suitable for the hero, Hoffman is an embarrassed and persistent little man, ordinary, broken family, please see Midnight Cowboy, or the Kramers.
I like Tootsie, like Midnight Cowboy, like Cramers. Although, I must admit that the Hoffmans in this movie are not as good as Midnight Cowboys, and not as good as the Kramers. Midnight Cowboy is actually very similar to Tootsie in many parts. He is bored looking for things to do on the street. There is a saying that to be the actor, you have to play the role of lame, mad, transgender, and homosexual. Hoffman does not play less. Compared with Wayne, who has an image for a lifetime, Hoffman is diverse. Actors of the same period, he is more diverse than Pacino and De Niro, and he does not want to be as handsome as Redford.
What Hoffman is great about is his expression. His expressions are many and rich. He seems to be able to cry at any time, or go crazy, but he is actually very calm. This is the skill of acting. This is something that the academy cannot teach. On the one hand, it requires real training, on the other hand, it requires a strong heart.
