I used this relatively long winter vacation to finish watching five "Pirates of the Caribbean". 4 and 5 are indeed not as good as the first three, but my rating for 5 is five stars, for Captain Barbosa.
Captain Jack is indeed the protagonist of the entire series, that's undeniable. But the character that captivated me the most and was my favorite was Captain Barbossa.
When watching 1, I don't think anyone likes Barbosa. In one movie, he was the obvious villain who betrayed Jack, killed Bill Turner, and ended up being cursed by gold coins. But Barbossa's conversation with Elizabeth had already made it clear that he wanted to be a flesh-and-blood person, and he didn't want to have immortality. The second Barbossa took a big bite out of an apple after being resurrected.
In the battle of Shipwreck Cove, Barbossa led the Black Pearl against the Flying Dutch. In the battle of the Fountain of Youth, Barbossa stood in front of the Fountain of Youth unmoved, cutting his enemy Blackbeard with a broken leg. "Revenge is mine." In the final chapter, Barbossa finds Jack and releases the black pearl. The other party is Salazar, who is almost the god of death at sea. He still wants to "race the dead" with Jack.
He died under the aura of the protagonist and came back to life, survived by Davy Jones and Blackbeard, but he still died. When Salazar was about to catch up with his daughter, Jack threw him a sword, and he caught the sword and jumped down to kill Salazar, burying himself in the sea.
I think only Barbossa really understands Jack. And the only one who understands Barbossa may be Jack.
Barbossa was indeed ruthless and cunning, but Captain Barbossa was a true blood pirate, the true captain of the Black Pearl.
