Love-hate characters

The film is based on true events

In 1933, the number one thief in the United States, John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and his accomplice John Hamilton (Jason Clark) were armed and robbed in prison

Robbery gang members successfully rescued from Indiana prison

Including "Pretty Boy" Floyd (played by Channing Tatum)

"Babyface" Nelson (Stephen Granham), etc.

And hide in the farmhouse of corrupt policeman Martin (John Michael Bolger).

Martin convinces Dillinger to hide in Chicago for gang protection

in a series of bank robberies

Dillinger falls in love with Billie Frequet (Marion Cotillard), a female employee he meets by chance.

at the same time

FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) is promoted by his boss, Director Hoover (Billy Crudup).

Dillinger vows to be brought to justice in first U.S. 'war on crime'

Dillinger is also a respectable opponent for him

Because only he could see when Purvis was doing the job

troubled

Every dead person increases Purvis' psychological burden

That's why he left the FBI after Dillinger's death and committed suicide

Dillinger is lovely

Dillinger was an unfortunate childhood

Mother died and father abandoned

10 years in prison just for stealing $50

Such a judicial system seems a bit inhumane

In prison he met some brothers

promise to help them escape

He really did

I have to say that the opening of the movie is very good

Highlights a loyal, courageous and handsome Dillinger

The same setting appeared after Dillinger himself escaped from prison

a bank robbery

They were surrounded by FBI agents

One of his brothers was shot and died

He actually had a premonition that he couldn't do the same thing again.

I also advised Dillinger to plan for the future

Just haven't waited for that "future" to come

He's leaving this world first

He said to teach Dillinger how to let go

Let go of these brothers let go of Billie and Dillinger himself

He knew that Dillinger would not abandon anyone

This is his loyalty and affection

But do others treat you as equally important?

such as the last

It was Dillinger's female friend Anna who betrayed him.

disclose his information to federal agents

Yes, she was forced to

Otherwise, they will be sent back to Romania

It's bad news for her

on the other hand

woman dillinger fell in love with

He brought her the exciting and interesting life she demanded

And also brought her a love that is completely unadulterated

The first thing I did when I got out of jail was to call Billie

Although he also knew it was a very risky thing to do

But I swore to take care of you

to be realized

You know what he's like

Billie's arrest

Dillinger's tears

almost pulled the trigger

The sadness of seeing Billie's letter

and the last parting words

"goodbye, my blackbird"

If we could temporarily strip him of his thief's cloak

Then he is a man of love, no doubt.

Dillinger hates

If you have to say hate

That's his identity as a thief

Countless bank robberies

Even crossing state lines is a breeze

Many of them involved gun battles

some people sacrificed

They could be FBI agents or just innocent citizens

anyway

The weight of life is something you can't ignore and squander

But Dillinger himself knew

he's a bank robber

But other than that he didn't do anything bad

Even his extraordinary "ability" made him "popular" and sought after

You should really see the reporters and flashlights who were there when he was first arrested

He waved to the crowd

He talks wisely with reporters

he smiled at them

in the cinema

People looked around but didn't find him

Even though everyone said they hated him on the surface

But not many people really know what he looks like

That's why when he walked into the police station

no one pays attention to him

On the contrary, he himself admired his "brilliant record"

How do people like this die?

if you give him a chance

He might really go far away from America

Live his second life

Because when other people don't care about their public image

Dillinger says he cares

He also wanted to hide himself in the crowd

This may be a metaphor for what he once thought about living as an ordinary person in the future

with billie

Dillinger said

Even if I die, I will die with you

He has his expectations for happiness

different from cold-blooded criminals

He's more of a full man

in the last movie

The protagonist of a gangster movie says you should die like this

As dignified and as free as you were alive

Don't be afraid, don't fight

When the time is up, accept it calmly without procrastinating

Dillinger smiled again to show his approval

He may have had a premonition of his own death the moment he walked out of the theater

One may be doing the wrong thing

But if he still has some good qualities

still worthy of love

But this is the way of drama

How should the reality be?

personal show. Probably one of Depp's toughest plays. The tension in front is well controlled, but unfortunately the end is a little weak

Lively, nervous and handsome actor. A good-looking biographical movie. Although I have never felt this way about a biographical movie before. Thanks to Depp's awesome acting skills.

Public Enemies quotes

  • [Purvis and Baum are listening in on a wiretapped call]

Agent Carter Baum: This is a phone conversation from a car dealership twenty-seven minutes ago. Harry Berman.

[He pushes down the needle to play back an acetate disk]

John Dillinger's voice: When you drop it, leave the keys on the floorboard.

    Harry Berman's voice: I got a DeSoto.

    John Dillinger's voice: Okay.

    [Purvis takes off his headphones]

Melvin Purvis: How did we get to Berman?

Agent Carter Baum: Off the Dillinger coat. The coat was bought in Cicero, Illinois, a few doors down from Berman's dealership. Now we know Berman. He's been supplying cars to the Syndicate since Capone. When Dillinger bought that coat, he must've been at Berman's switching cars.

Melvin Purvis: Soon as they call to drop the DeSoto, we'll tail it. I want men on this, around the clock.

  • [Hoover is at a Senate Appropriation Committee hearing]

Senator Kenneth McKellar: Why do we need this?

    J. Edgar Hoover: Because criminals flee in fast automobiles across state lines, thereby defeating local jurisdiction because there is no federal police force to stop them.

Senator Kenneth McKellar: By my tally, your bureau wants to spend more taxpayer's dollars catching crooks, than what the crooks you catch stole in the first place.

    J. Edgar Hoover: Well that's ridiculous. The Bureau has apprehended kidnappers and bank robbers who have stolen up to and in excess of...

    Senator Kenneth McKellar: Really?

    [Hoover stops midsentence]

Senator Kenneth McKellar: How many have you apprehended?

    J. Edgar Hoover: We have arrested and arraigned 213 wanted felons.

Senator Kenneth McKellar: No, I mean *you*, Director Hoover.

    J. Edgar Hoover: Well, as Director, I administer.

Senator Kenneth McKellar: How many have you arrested, personally?

[long pause as Hoover stares at McKellar]

    J. Edgar Hoover: I have never arrested anybody.

[Other men in the chamber gasp in shock]

Senator Kenneth McKellar: You've never arrested anybody?

    J. Edgar Hoover: Well of course not. I'm an administrator...

Senator Kenneth McKellar: With no field experience. You are shockingly unqualified, aren't you, sir? You have never personally conducted a criminal investigation in the field in your life. I think you're a front. I think your prowess as a lawman is a myth, created from the hoopla of headlines by Mr. Suydam, your publicist there. Crimebuster? G-Man? You're setting yourself up as a Czar? That's running wild in my estimation.

    J. Edgar Hoover: A *crime* is what runs wild...

Senator Kenneth McKellar: If this country requires a bureau such as yours, I question whether you are the person fit to run it.

    J. Edgar Hoover: [getting angry] Well I will not be judged by a kangaroo court of venal politicians...

Senator Kenneth McKellar: Your appropriation increase is denied.

[taps his gavel, signifying the end of the session; Hoover and his aides get up and leave]

    J. Edgar Hoover: Feed the following to Walter Winchell: "McKellar is a Neanderthal, and he is on a personal vendetta to destroy me." We will not contest him in his committee. We need to fight him on the front page. Where's John Dillinger?
