Transparency is the vaccine against an epidemic of social panic

"Influenza" and "Infectious Diseases" are based on stories from different cultural backgrounds in the East and the West. Therefore, when disaster strikes, the performance of characters at different levels has their own cultural characteristics. However, in one point, they are in the movie. It is exactly the same: they all think that their people are ignorant and cannot bear the cruelty of the truth, so they all use the means of suppressing and blocking news.

In comparison, the governments of big countries in "The Wandering Earth" are much more open, and the people of big countries don't seem to be so ignorant and low-end.

There is always a gap between art and reality.

The quality of this movie is quite high, and it is definitely worth watching patiently. Many details are worth watching and thinking deeply. Don't spend 3 or 4 minutes talking about the movie.

It loses a lot of the glitz of commercial films, and adds a lot of the coolness of documentaries. With a plain and cold tone, it reflects the performance of different stakeholders under disasters - it may be true.

Just like the order in which the stories are told in the play, in an epidemic, what is more important is what people choose to do, which determines the step-by-step development and outcome of the epidemic, not how the source of the disease comes from, just like now.

Contagion quotes

  • Dr. Ellis Cheever: You know where this comes from, shaking hands? It was a way of showing a stranger you weren't carrying a weapon in the old days. You offered your empty right hand to show that you meant no harm.

  • Dr. Ellis Cheever: But right now, our best defense has been social distancing. No hand-shaking, staying home when you're sick washing your hands frequently.
