Elena's character setting in the first season is smooth, kind and brave. She was also terrified when she saw the horrific side of Stefan, but she believed in love, and even though she wasn't sure if Stefan would hurt her, she stayed with him and helped Stefan overcome when he was struggling thirst for blood.
Stefan has always looked like the personification of justice, and was even more convinced when he first saw it. But in this review, Stefan is three-dimensional. I not only see his kindness and gentleness, but also his efforts to try not to hurt others. Maybe a vampire fights against bloodthirsty lust, just like an overeating person fights against hunger, which I know deeply and touched me a lot. But Love made his fangs retract and made his face look normal.
Damon chose to be a bad guy perhaps because he has the tenderest heart. Crazy in love with Catherine, even knowing she is a vampire, falling in love with a charming woman like Catherine and accompanying her, the whole world no longer matters. So when he lost her, Damon's heart was shattered and untouchable, so he shut down "humanity" and searched for her for 145 years.
