I read the book after watching the movie

After watching the movie version, I felt astonished, so I read the novel. It must be said that the atmosphere created by the novel fascinated me and I read it in just five days. But the novel is not about specific content. I think it is an experience. The author uses words to bring you into that poetic environment, your fear of the unknown. In the end, I don't know what's in the lighthouse.

The movie can't be said to be better, the movie's understanding has risen to a figurative place, self-destruction, and the story of aliens looking for objects. A different viewing experience. But there is no such thing in the novel. If the director does not have a deep understanding of the novel, he cannot do it.

"Arrival" and "annihilation" can be said to satisfy all my fantasies about alien civilizations. The original book of Arrival is only 71 pages long. Lamenting the brain holes of Hollywood directors, giving or even beyond the understanding of the original, the science fiction theme discussed from the perspective of linguistics and aliens may not have entities. great!

It's a pity that films of this type seem to be more difficult to exist in this era. "Annihilation" is only shown in China and the United States because there are too few theaters, and other regions can only watch it on the platform.

Not as good as the movie version of "Arrival". Many science students themselves think that it is very interesting to come out science popularization without others understanding it. It is useless to look at it.

I think it's "Arrival" + "Lost". This setting seems to be fresh, but it is actually quite boring. A lot of space is used to make up mysteries, but from the perspective of the plot, it is very thin. I don't like the director's "Ex Machina", and this one is the same, depressing and pretentious.

Annihilation quotes

  • Lena: The mutations were subtle at 1st; more extreme as we got closer to the lighthouse. Corruptions of form. Duplicates of form.

    Lomax: Duplicates?

Lena: [She looks at the tattoo on her arm & lifts her arm up] Echoes.

Lomax: Is it possible these were hallucinations?

Lena: I wondered that myself... but they were shared among all of us. It was dreamlike.

    Lomax: Nightmarish?

Lena: Not always. Sometimes it was beautiful.

[the movie then cuts back in time to show beautiful translucent single-tailed wormfish swimming alongside double-tailed duplicates. Lena is in a canoe on a swamp located quite near to a corpse that bears the same tattoo as Lena]

    Lena: Oww. Ow.

[She clutches her arm - there is no tattoo yet. However, a dark blue mark has appeared at the same place on her arm]

    Cass Sheppard: You're hurt?

Lena: It's just a bruise. I must have gotten that from the gator.

  • Dr Ventress: It's not like us... it's unlike us. I don't know what it wants, or if it wants, but it'll grow until it encompasses everything. Our bodies and our minds will be fragmented into their smallest parts until not one part remains... Annihilation.
