movie quality and cost are often not proportional, and "The King of Wrestling" proves this again.

Director Darren Aronofsky can be described as returning to the basics this time, his fourth feature film, without any bells and whistles before. Even from the opening shots, you might think this is the work of the Belgian Darney brothers: rough, realistic and sincere.

Originally thought this was a Rocky 6 under a handheld lens, but in fact the difference between the two is big. Of course, from an emotional point of view, I still prefer Rocky. If it wasn't for a Madonna movie, you could have translated the title into "Proof of the Flesh", because what's more bitter is that, albeit in a different way, both the male lead and the first supporting actress are It is by selling the flesh to eat and to prove its existence.

Everyone says the lead Mickey Rourke is great, and yes, I'll agree with him standing on high with his hands up like he did in that climactic gladiatorial scene. But perhaps even more should be written about Marisa Tomei, the stripper, who was definitely the best supporting actress you could see in any movie last year. Maybe you'll say, didn't Kate Winslet just win the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for "Life and Death"? Please, if she had a supporting role in that movie, no one would be the lead. That award is entirely a clever arrangement by the production company and a "debt repayment" by the judges for her outstanding acting skills for many years that have not been affirmed - although I have been doing "Caith" for many years, I am happier than anyone to see her winning the award, but To be fair, I have to say this.

Robert Siegel's script is almost impeccable, I just think it's perfect by two points. First, the speech before the wrestler's final fight is a bit hypocritical. It is not the image of Gao Daquan, there is no need for this sensational "sublimation". The second is the change in the emotional entanglement between the protagonist and his daughter, which was originally the point, but I personally think it would be better if there was a little less drama.

The Wrestler quotes

  • Necro Butcher: Are you cool with the staples?

    Randy 'The Ram' Robinson: Staples?

Necro Butcher: Staple gun... Not so bad on the way in, except it's a little scary, you know - you got this metal thing pressed up against you. Gonna leave some marks, have to deal with a little blood loss.

  • Randy 'The Ram' Robinson: Give this to your son, it's an authentic Randy "the Ram" action figure. Tell him not to lose it, it's a $300 collectors item.

    Cassidy: Really?

    Randy 'The Ram' Robinson: No.
