Different positions, there is no certain bad guy

I recently watched "Bridge of Spies" and I was deeply impressed. How can I say it? The word "spy" is relative. The article mainly tells the story of the arrest of spies from the United States and Russia during the Cold War. Donovan defended the Soviet intelligence agent, so he successfully rescued the story of the American pilot. It is worth mentioning that this film is adapted from real history.

In the film's metaphorical aspect, the "bridge" in this film not only refers to the Kenny Bridge at the end of the film, but also refers to the connection established by Donovan for the spies of the two countries. One of the scenes that stood out to me was Donovan holding water, once with the judge and the other with the German side. Hint how to weigh the pros and cons.

Let's go back to the word "spy", which is relative. It is a spy to the other country, but its own nationals are heroes. In the film, Abel is just completing the tasks assigned to him by the state, and so is the pilot. It is also an honor to take on this responsibility. But with it comes risk and stress. For that alone they are admirable.

At the same time, the characters are alive. Donovan also sees big-picture awareness. If Abel was directly executed in the past, the pilot would not be able to rescue the pilot later. And for his family's incomprehension, Donovan still takes his work seriously and is worthy of the professional ethics of a lawyer. Abel is calm and steady throughout the film. There are not too many lines in the film. But the silent shots of some close-ups are just right. At the end, Abel's help to the lawyer is a tacit understanding between the two, which makes people tearful. Abel uses his life to help the lawyer.

However, some plots in the film are suspected of beautifying the United States, and the pilots are tortured by various spirits. When the love head switched to the US side, Abel received respect. Although it reflected the equality of Americans, it was inconsistent with the attitude of the former judge and others towards Abel.

In the end, Tommy's acting is still very good.

Bridge of Spies quotes

  • Rudolf Abel: Standing there like that you reminded me of the man that used to come to our house when I was young. My father used to say: "watch this man'. So I did. Every time he came. And never once did he do anything remarkable.

James Donovan: And I remind you of him?

Rudolf Abel: This one time, I was at the age of your son, our house was overrun by partisan border guards. Dozens of them. My father was beaten, my mother was beaten, and this man, my father's friend, he was beaten. And I watched this man. Every time they hit him, he stood back up again. So they hit him harder. Still he got back to his feet. I think because of this they stopped the beating. They let him live. "Stoit i muzhik," I remember them saying... "stoit i muzhik." Which sort of means like uh, 'standing man'. Standing man...
