Contradiction and Confession

Yesterday I spent about 3 hours watching this legendary movie Magnolia (1999) that no one really understands, and at the juncture of this final exam, I
want to say that it really confirmed an unsolved paradox, that is, watching bad movies I think it takes time, and watching a good movie feels like a waste of brains.

This is a hysterical work. It's also a calm and terrifying work.

Magnolia is made up of many people and their stories that are actually intertwined within. Like (I think) the theme of the entire film, the provenance is rife: contradictions and confessions. This seems to be the ultimate contradiction between human logic and emotion.

Frank, as the spiritual leader of "Seduce and Destroy", when he was interviewed and asked: "So, why did you lie?", all he showed was silence. After being silent for so long, he finally uttered a sentence that made the audience feel great. Lines for satisfaction, "I'm quietly judging you." He realized that the self-contradiction in his heart and the truth of "revelation" were being exposed little by little. He used lies to cover up his sincerity, but he was being At the moment when he was forced to expose himself, he was extremely dazed, and his calm appearance formalized his restless heart. All he preaches is the complete conquest of women, but his mother is his favorite. His father was the person he hated the most. A few minutes before his father died, he sat by the bed, cursing him, wishing him more pain from cancer, shouting "I don't want to shed a tear for your death!" But when the moment came, he went wild:" Don't die! Don't leave me!"

His stepmother, Linda, who was as young as him, married his father for money, and continued to have sex with other men during the marriage. However, before his husband died, she found out that she fell in love with the man on the hospital bed, how shameless it was for her name to appear in her will, and found that in order to make her husband less painful before he died, she was willing to run to and Different doctors go crazy for prescription drugs for pain relief and anesthesia.

I saw half of the time that the young wife wanted to overdose her husband so she could inherit the inheritance; half of the time I saw it I thought that Frank hated the women of this world from the bones; Phil, the male nurse who takes care of Frank's father, bought the Playboy Penthouse Hustler to meet his physical needs; half of seeing Donnie, who was once a genius, was too concerned about his image because he could not forget his glorious past; half of seeing The policeman is a very cautious person who can handle everything by himself...

Later I found out, the young wife because of love and repentance; Frank because of love and despair of losing love forever; Phil because of love and compassion; Donnie because of love and Pursuit; police for love and lack of love.

They have done cruel things and, with good excuses, fail to notice that they have been misunderstood and judged by others. And where are the people who judge them? Is it really a camera?

Many times, we have reason to hate, too much reason. 1 2 3 can be easily cited and stated in a concessional way. However, if someone ignores these facts and reasons and asks directly: "So, why did you lie?"

What I can't answer seems to be not this question, but the eternal self-contradiction in my heart.

Maybe it should be like another ten-year-old movie "500 days of summer", and I should say what I want to say at the very beginning. Perhaps it should be generously written: "This story is pure fiction, any resemblance to anyone or anything, living or dead, is purely coincidental. Especially you, Jenny Beckman, bitch!" The movie to describe how much he actually loves this Jenny Beckman.

I'm curious, is this Jenny Beckman laughing when he sees the movie? Are you still laughing?

There are two lines in another Eagles song that I love so much.

These things that are pleasing you, can hurt you somehow.

And freedom, oh freedom! That's just some people talking. Your prison is walking through this world all alone.

Because of the contradiction, I chose to hide in the dark and watch the world. I'm not ready to judge, I'm not emotional. Because one day, I know, someone will understand.

  • Young Pharmacy Kid: Strong, strong stuff here. What exactly you have wrong, you need all this stuff?

    Linda Partridge: Motherfucker...

Young Pharmacy Kid: What are you talking about?

Linda Partridge: Who the fuck are you, who the fuck do you think you are? I come in here, you don't know me, you don't know who I am, what my life is, you have the balls, the indecency to ask me a question about my life?

Old Pharmacist: Please, lady, why don't you calm down - ?

Linda Partridge: Fuck you, too. Don't call me "lady". I come in here, I give these things to you, you check, you make your phone calls, look suspicious, ask questions. I'm sick. I have sickness all around me and you fucking ask me about my life? "What's wrong?" Have you seen death in your bed? In your house? Where's your fucking decency? And then I'm asked fucking questions. What's... wrong? You suck my dick. That's what's wrong. And you, you fucking call me "lady"? Shame on you. Shame on you. Shame on both of you.

  • Alan Kligman, Esq.: Linda, stop. Now you take a moment, you breathe, and one thing at a time.

Linda Partridge: Shut the fuck up.

Alan Kligman, Esq.: You know what would help you, Linda?

Linda Partridge: Shut the fuck up. Shut the fuck up.

Alan Kligman, Esq.: You need to sober up.

Linda Partridge: Now, you must *really* shut the fuck up now, please - shut the fuck up.

    Alan Kligman, Esq.: Linda.

Linda Partridge: I have to go.

Alan Kligman, Esq.: Let me call you a car, Linda.

Linda Partridge: Shut the fuck up.
