On this day, Magnolia that makes people collapse...a movie about forgiveness
Magnolia, Magnolia, 99's film, 2000 Berlin Golden Bear, bought it home by chance, accidentally stuffed it in the evening of a small holiday I got the DVD player, and for the next three hours, I became more and more broken down. With a rain of frogs, I finally got rid of the quarrel with the film.
This is a film that must be watched twice. Its ruthless, accurate and complete force really catches people's senses and thoughts off guard.
Great depth, better cinematography, better music, masking some of the writer's flaws that can pull people out of the film, making this dark movie outstanding.
It is hard to imagine that this is a work written and directed by a young director who was only 29 years old. Because of his youth, the film faintly reveals an indelible sense of ridicule. With such a big subject, the young director has shown a rare ability to control.
The reason why the depth is excellent is because the age, occupation, gender, and social role of the characters are all covered, which is simply a Ukiyo-e. Men and women, young and old, couples, fathers, children, mothers, daughters, lovers, bosses, staff, policemen, TV celebrities, gays, extramarital affairs, drugs, incest, and everything. The life stories of the 9 protagonists are intricate and complicated, but they do not give people the feeling of chaos and disorder. The lines are full of foul language and warning words everywhere. Every character alludes to some typical modern emotions, and I believe that everyone watching the movie will be stunned at a certain moment in the movie. Magnolia is so desperate that it is about to collapse, and it is so real that it makes people hide their faces and sigh. Seeing that the evil of human nature is more and more eroded into the depth of the film, the fate string of each character will collapse due to continuous force. Because the request to go to the toilet on the show was repeatedly rejected, the genius child who could not bear to pee his pants resisted, "I'm not a toy! I'm not a doll!" The homosexual shouted "I love you!" The father vaguely repented of his sins towards his daughter. The old father, who abandoned his wife in his youth, finally got his son's forgiveness and closed his eyes. Suddenly, a heavy rain of bloody frogs started falling from the sky. It slammed on the roof, the roof, the ground, everywhere, like revenge, interrupting each character's attempt to escape from the shell, the mother returned to the daughter, the son returned to the father's bed, the husband confessed For sin, genius demands more fatherly love, the unemployed give up revenge, people start to wake up, repent, look after each other...
The surreal frog rain is like a phantom real disaster, people start giving again Up paranoia, forget sin, be sincere and frank, even love has finally come, and the dawn of life reappears.
I remembered the conversation I had with Chung yesterday. It was about dark movies. Chung said that I happened to watch dark movies recently. After watching the kind of movies that make people feel that the world is very dark, I didn't understand why I made these movies. Movies that particularly describe the ugliness of human nature, now I understand: because the world is full of ugly and dark, it doesn't exist because we don't want it or don't like it, on the contrary, these are facts that we can't escape. There are many unfaithful marriages in the world, irresponsible parents, problem youth living in darkness, laid-off workers who are unemployed and destitute, homosexuals who don't know who to trust their love to... It's not that we don't watch this movie Videos can deceive themselves. Fortunately, the movie did not blindly go dark, forgetfulness, and finally gave people some reconciliation and respite. What is rare is that the handling of the film does not make people feel blunt, but turns corners very naturally.
Let our lives naturally turn a corner due to all kinds of unpleasantness. "Because it's not going to stop till you wise up".
(The photography of this film is wonderful, I really want to praise it! The interdependence of music and plot, I also want to praise it!)
Lines:
Jim (cop): "We move through this life, and we should try and do good. And if we do that, not hurt anyone else, well, then..."
"Sometimes people need to be helped. Sometimes people need to be forgiven. And sometimes they need to go to jail. You can fogive someone. Well,
that's tough part. What can we forgive? Tough part of the job. Tough part of walking down the street."
Claudia (Jimmy's daughter, Jim's favored girl, drug addictor, sexually harrassed by her father Jimmy): "People afraid to say things . No guts to say the things that are
real or something. I'll tell you everything and you tell me everything. And maybe we can get through all the piss, shit and lies that kill other people."
Donnie (Quiz Kid, gay , job-loser): "I really do have love to give. I just don't know where to put it." (crying)
"We may be through with the past, but the past is not through with us!"
Stanley (little quiz kid): "This isn't funny. This isn't cute. See, the way we're looked at? Because I'm not a toy. I'm not a doll. I'm made to feel like a freak if I answer
questions or I'm smart or I have to go to the bathroom? I'm smart, so that should make me something so people can watch how silly it is he's smart? I
know things, i know , I know...I know I have to go to the bathroom and I asked..."

Song: The Logical Song
When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the world's asleep,
the questions run too deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.
Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical ,
liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!
At night, when all the world's asleep,
the questions run so deep
for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Song: Save Me
[Verse 1:]
You look like a perfect fit
For a girl in need of a tourniquet
[Chorus 1:]
But can you save me
Come on and save me
If you could save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
[Verse 2:]
'Cause I can tell
You what it's like
The long farewell of the hunger strike
[Chorus 2:]
But can you save me
Come on and save me
If you could save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
[Bridge:]
You struck me dumb like radium
Like Peter Pan or Superman
[Chorus 3:]
You will come to save me
C'mon and save me
If you could save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
'Cept the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
But the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
[Chorus 4:]
C'mon and save me
Why don't you save me
If you could save me
From the ranks of the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
Except the freaks
Who suspect they could never love anyone
Except the freaks who could never love anyone

Song: Wise Up
It's not
What you thought
When you first began it
You got
What you want
Now you can hardly stand it though,
By now you know
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
You're sure
There's a cure
And you have finally found it
You think
One drink
Will shrink you 'til you're underground
And living down
But it's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
Prepare a list of what you need
Before you sign away the deed
'Cause it's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
So just...give up
