It turned out to be like this at night

Yes, you can say that this is a noir film, or a horror film. But such a statement will only devalue the value of this masterpiece. As a noir film, it lacks the typical femme fatale image, and the plot arrangement and problem solving are too naive. As a horror movie, it obviously lacks the visual rendering and psychological stimulation of a typical horror movie.

(But perhaps because of this, its alternative blackness and horror are more refreshing.)

It is indeed difficult to classify, and it may be more appropriate to call it a religious movie, a Bible movie or a Christmas movie. Both the characters and the story can be supported by the Old and New Testaments. The two little brothers and sisters repeated the escape of Jesus and the rescue of Moses in the river. The plausible evil false preacher is no different from Satan on earth. The old lady appeared as a virgin and guardian angel on earth.

The film's photography miraculously captures the tranquility of the night over God's creation, and the horrible atmosphere that seeps like drops of water. It turned out to be like this at night. This is a great movie about the night.

After a night of sin, a night of hunting, a night of escape, and a night of fright, the film reasonably ended on Christmas night. Hosanna!

  • Rev. Harry Powell: I can hear you whisperin' children, so I know you're down there. I can feel myself gettin' awful mad. I'm out of patience children. I'm coming to find you now.

  • Rachel Cooper: I'm a strong tree with branches for many birds. I'm good for something in this world, and I know it too.
