helpless

This is a depressing film, rather than talking about human morality, it just tells a helpless story in my opinion.

The little girl lied for various reasons of her own. Although the matter was later clarified, the seeds of doubt had already been sown in this small town. Lucas' life was completely ruined in a sense and would not return to the past. .

When I watched it, I was also very angry and chilled by the various hostility of the people in the town, but then I thought, if, assuming, Lucas was really a child sex abuser, I should have been very hostile to him by the people in the town at that time. Appreciate that it is the human conscience that seeks justice.

So Lucas in the whole story is completely powerless against external forces, because the truth is not important anymore, as Clara's father told her at her bedside, there is malice in the world.

  • [subtitled version]

Lucas: What are you saying? Have you got something to tell me?

    Agnes: Stop it, Lucas.

Lucas: You want to tell me something?

    Theo: Relax, Lucas.

Lucas: The whole town is listening. Tell me! What do you want to say?

Agnes: Stop it, you fucking psychopath!

Lucas: I want a word with Theo. Look into my eyes. Look me in the eyes. What do you see? Do you see anything? Nothing. There's nothing. There's nothing. You leave me alone now. You leave me alone now, Theo. Then I'll go. Thank you.
