Hollywood's apocalyptic images are always fascinating. People from all walks of life will fight to the death for a Bible. All the "garbage" that was discarded by people in peacetime has become a rare commodity after the war. As a book protector, Denzer Washington is like a lone ranger in the first half, and an incarnation of an angel in the second half. In fact, preaching is just an appearance. People cannot live without lofty beliefs. Spiritual food is far more precious than food. If Chinese people are unwilling to accept the allegorical representations in Western culture, they will also interpret the Bible as the doctrine of acting for heaven. If this film is made into a Chinese sci-fi version, then the book of Eli should be the complete works of Mao Zedong. If it is a parody version of ancient costumes, it will probably become the Jiuyin Zhenjing and Wu Mu's suicide note. In the film, the Bible is not called the Bible, but the Book of Eli, not because it came from Eli's dictation, but because a great ordinary person like Eli is a saint. Another point worth exploring in the film is why the Bible was burned after the war, why the Braille version of the Bible escaped disaster, and why some ambitious people used the Bible as a weapon to rule the people. It seems to be more interesting than the great theme that the main line was originally intended to express.

The Book of Eli quotes

  • Eli: They say the war tore a hole in the sky, you've probably heard the stories.

    Solara: Yeah.

Eli: The war tore a hole in the sky, the sun came down, burnt everything, everyone, I wandered, I didn't really know what I should do or where I was going. I was just moving from place to place, trying to stay alive. And then one day I heard this voice. I don't know how to explain it, it's like it was coming from inside me. But I could hear it clear as day. Clear as I can hear you talking to me now. It told me to carry the book west, it told me that a path would be laid out before me, that I'd be led to a place where the book would be safe. It told me I'd be protected, against anyone or anything that tried to stand in my way. If only I would have faith. That was thirty years ago and I've been walking ever since.

Solara: And you did all this because a voice told you to?

Eli: I know what I hear, I know what I heard, I know I'm not crazy, I didn't imagine it

  • Hoyt: [seeing two dead hijackers] It's like he's protected somehow. Like there's nothing that can touch him

Carnegie: Oh, he's just a fucking man. You put a bullet in him, he'll go down like any other.
