His absurdity and your awakening

I saw two people, or two people.

You think this film is about loneliness, you must be very wrong. Although in every shot, the signs of shading and aging were aggravated, he shed tears at the psychiatrist and at the one-night stand, and said repeatedly, I feel very lonely, very lonely. Leaning his head helplessly on the shoulders of others, he was gloomy and plagued by death. Remember the poem about autumn that the woman read on the radio? Autumn withers, and in winter, everything seems to be dead.

Yes, I saw the tears of a shameful man. In front of the doctor in fear, verbal probing, afraid to hear bad news about his health; for the inaction of marriage and family, both wives have left, child, daughter, he does not remember how long he lost her or how to care. Or infiltrate her life; seeing his lover enjoy the happiness of family, he actually wants to die in the public. Aventure, together with the one or two women who were in Aventure, he was so weak and feeble, lying on one woman and crying on the shoulder of another woman. Repeatedly, I don't know what I am doing. One woman said, I want you to kneel down and pray for my kiss, another said, just sex, take off your clothes.

What a sad and unsound personality. As if any matter, a person can control his mind and emotions, sucking up his head and chest. This wretched person, who seems not to be responsible for the world, keeps making a mess of his own life and spends his whole life dedicated to performing these failures with time and effort. Perhaps destroying the good things to people is called tragedy, and showing the failed things to people is called courage. Even if it is destroyed, the illusion must be burned to death in the burning house.

He didn't always look for his daughter as he said, and always fell in love with his lover. He just feels that he wants to do this over the years, and has always been immersed in the artistic mood of sadness and depression, instead of truly loving and caring for the people around him. He put all the feelings of his life in a huge virtual drama, and then forced himself to forget and escape the real life. Isn't it? How can a person who has spent more than ten years doing nothing, just crying and waiting, understand what true feelings and life are like? That is by no means what the great director Carden has derived. Love is not a written word, a song that is sung, or a play performed. What about the responsibility that a mature person should do to others? Where can you find it in him? Even many years later, he himself needs to hire an actor to play himself. The actor also claims to know him better than himself. Isn't he a failure?

Committed to feelings that are too personal, people's lives are meaningless at all. Here comes back to a simple proposition, whether one should live for his own feelings or for the feelings of others. Carden pays too much attention to his own feelings, and he pays too much attention to narrowness and selfishness, making it impossible for him to figure out the direction of the event, because he finally cut off the connection between his heart and the world, and entered a fantasy. Do you care? No, he never does. He would never understand why Claire told his daughter that your father was looking for himself and he would not come back.

So he is lonely, inevitably lonely. I was so lonely that I could cry wherever I could depend. Because he is not responsible to anyone, does not exist in anyone's life, there is no trace, how can he not be alone. At the end he said I love you, because the strange cleaner gave a shoulder, he can cry again and feel that he has love.

What about the ideal power as a person? What about the power that comes from the heart that is warm and strong, big enough to change many things that shouldn't happen? Killed by crying, swallowed by selfishness. Life shouldn't be like this, but I saw a weak and bald man sigh, dying under the whispering commands of others. This is the only way. His life has been wasted by him.

Then came the artist. Another person I saw. The person who wrote this huge script. It's Carden, and it's Charlie Kaufman. No matter how powerful a person is, or no matter how humble and weak, his love and hatred for life and death is extremely small compared to the vast universe and thousands of natural people that exist, and it is not worth mentioning. The absurdity of Carden is that he thinks he is ill-fated and his life is lonely and helpless. His story is very special, as if no one else can understand, so he has made wrong judgments and continued wrong stories all his life. So this story became a legend and a warning. When it ended, it finally had a positive meaning. The meaning is everything you see that can be described in words. They tell you softly, don't be so pessimistic and weary of the world, indulge in fictional literature and art, raise your head and live bravely! Face the problems you dare not face, and solve the problems you can't solve. That is, when you die, how many precious days and nights can you have before you die?

This is indeed a very unbearable drama. I just want to laugh, want to laugh, because it is so trivial to be so successful. Those who bury their eyes in the literary pile and close their eyes and do not ask about the world, and only feel lonely and helpless, make me want to laugh; those who are devastated and talk about looking for the ideal love, but ignore the real partner who raises their eyebrows make me want to laugh; those who think I'm living, but I'm not moving forward. People who are terrified every step of the way make me want to laugh. But those who always think that life can come back and wait for others to change their destiny and wait till they die make me want to cry.

To cast aside this movie or admire it really depends on how you view his absurdity and your own awakening.

Synecdoche, New York quotes

  • Sammy Barnathan: I've watched you forever, Caden, but you've never really looked at anyone other than yourself. So watch me. Watch my heart break. Watch me jump. Watch me learn that after death there's nothing. There's no more watching. There's no more following. No love. Say goodbye to Hazel for me. And say it to yourself, too. None of us has much time.

  • [over radio]

Millicent Weems: What was once before you - an exciting, mysterious future - is now behind you. Lived; understood; disappointing. You realize you are not special. You have struggled into existence, and are now slipping silently out of it. This is everyone's experience. Every single one. The specifics hardly matter. Everyone's everyone. So you are Adele, Hazel, Claire, Olive. You are Ellen. All her meager sadnesses are yours; all her loneliness; the gray, straw-like hair; her red raw hands. It's yours. It is time for you to understand this.

    Millicent Weems: Walk.

Millicent Weems: As the people who adore you stop adoring you; as they die; as they move on; as you shed them; as you shed your beauty; your youth; as the world forgets you; as you recognize your transience; as you begin to lose your characteristics one by one; as you learn there is no-one watching you, and there never was, you think only about driving - not coming from any place; not arriving any place. Just driving, counting off time. Now you are here, at 7:43. Now you are here, at 7:44. Now you are...

    Millicent Weems: Gone.
