Kindness and respect should be reciprocated to those who are good, but in the face of those who have done serious harm to society, we should resolutely reward them with a bullet, lest they harm more innocent people.

Synopsis

Finch (Gregory Peck) is a lawyer in the town of Meigang, an old town in the American South.

He lives with his 10-year-old son Jim and 6-year-old daughter Scott because of the death of his wife.

Finch was kind and upright, often helping the poor get justice without pay.

On this day, the district court commissioned him to defend a black man named Tom.

The situation is dire as he is accused of rape by a white father and daughter.

Finch knew how difficult it would be to defend black people in a time when racism was especially severe.

But he still accepted the case with the courage to seek justice.

But soon he was threatened by the plaintiff, Mr. Iwell.

Even daughter Scott, who just started school, was affected.

Finch is actually mentally prepared, and he will not compromise because of this.

The trial finally began, and the case was particularly interesting because of the race involved, and many people from the town came to the scene.

Finch was firmly in control from the start.

Through the wounds on the neck and eyes of the victim, the girl Mayella, he led the wounder to be left-handed .

Tom's left hand was injured as early as 12 years old and could not use force.

There was no medically identifiable trace of rape on the victim's body.

All the accusations are based on the one-sided words of the Ewell father and daughter.

Unexpectedly, everything Finch did was in vain.

Tom was found guilty after a jury of 12 white men .

Righteousness and justice do not triumph over stubbornness and prejudice.

Finch was disappointed, but he still told Tom not to be disappointed, because there was still an opportunity to appeal.

But it didn't take long for Finch to receive news of Tom's death .

It turned out that the desperate Tom tried to escape, but was shot and killed by the guards, and he passed away like this.

Finch was upset, but he calmed down as soon as possible because he had to bring the news to Tom's family.

Although Tom is gone, discrimination and prejudice are far from over, and more provocations and intimidation await Finch ...

Video Analysis

Based on the novel of the same name, the film tells a story involving racial, social and legal issues. With his excellent performance in the film, Gregory Peck won his first and only Best Actor Oscar at the end of his acting career . ·Pike is very sympathetic to black people in reality.

Although the main plot of the film is about the trial of a black man, I think the focus is on white people. The villains are represented by the violent and evil Mr. Iwell, the stubborn and prejudiced jury and the big boss. Part of the white crowd, stupid and hypocritical Mayella girl. On behalf of the decent white police officer with a sense of justice and compassion, the kind and caring neighbor Abu, and our honest and brave hero, lawyer Finch.

Although there is a tragedy in the film, I believe that this film is more a symbol of peace and hope , because it tells white people that most black people are simple, kind, and grateful, and also tells black people that white people are not all ignorant, but also have kindness and kindness. Heroes of integrity and empathy, so we should let go of our stubbornness and prejudice and open our hearts to each other.

Prejudice is everywhere, and what is shown in the film is not only the prejudice between races, but also the prejudice between people, caused by social environment and rumors. In real life, there are always some mavericks who are not understood because of their different lifestyles than most people, and over time they become the weirdos in other people's mouths.

I believe that when we were children, like the children in the film, we would comment on a neighbor child who did not fit in with our playmates, as if we had discovered a monster. This phenomenon did not disappear with growing up. In our work and life, we still talk a lot about a colleague or friend who doesn't fit in with us, and have an inexplicably hostile attitude towards him. discriminate.

The film focuses on two people who are harmed by prejudice. One is Tom, a black man, who was convicted by a jury of 12 white people under Finch's strong defense. Here tell us the consequences of prejudice. How serious the consequences are, an innocent man lost his life like this. The other is Abu, who is not understood because of his social phobia. He likes children and is caring, but he is alienated by everyone, but in the end, his bravery is rewarded with respect. Here we are told how stupid it is to hold prejudice .

What Tom and Abu have in common is that they are both kind, Tom is willing to help others without charging, and Abu hides in the dark to protect the children silently, so they both symbolize the robin, a bird that brings joy to human beings through singing, "Remember, killing a robin casually is a sin" , so how can we let prejudice be a murder weapon against those who are harmless to society?

Don't let worldly prejudice affect your judgment, follow your heart, be yourself, open your heart, and accept the world.

  • Tom Robinson: I can't use my left hand at all. I got it caught in a cotton gin when I was twelve years old. All my muscles were tore loose.

Tom Robinson: Well, I said I best be goin', I couldn't do nothin' for her, an' she said, oh, yes I could. An' I asked her what, and she said to jus' step on the chair yonder an' git that box down from on top of the chifforobe. So I done like she told me, and I was reachin' when the next thing I know she... grabbed me aroun' the legs.

[a murmur erupts in the courthouse]

Tom Robinson: She scared me so bad I hopped down an' turned the chair over. That was the only thing, only furniture 'sturbed in the room, Mr. Finch, I swear, when I left it... Mr. Finch, I got down off the chair, and I turned around an' she sorta jumped on me. She hugged me aroun' the waist. She reached up an' kissed me on the face. She said she'd never kissed a grown man before an' she might as well kiss me. She says for me to kiss her back.

[Tom shakes his head, re-living the ordeal with his eyes half-closed]

Tom Robinson: And I said, Miss Mayella, let me outta here, an' I tried to run. Mr. Ewell cussed at her from the window and said he's gonna kill her.
