Although there are a lot of American dramas I watch, and they are basically popular in the domestic genre, such as HOUSE, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, CSI, but my favorite is an American drama that is unknown in China-Monk , Not a monk, but "Detective Amon", Monk is his surname.
Monk is a detective with a lot of cleanliness/obsessive-compulsive disorder. He grew up in a weird family. He only wears clothes of a fixed style and color, uses a brand of electrical appliances, drinks a fixed brand of water, and has a fixed recipe every day of the week. Fear of heights/bacteria/milk/needles/airplanes/trains/buses/dirty and messy environment, bring sterile tissues with you, my favorite word is even, I like integers/even numbers, and hate everything that is unbalanced/asymmetrical. He is a Sherlock Holmes-style detective. Unlike the high-tech shown in CSI, he solves crimes in a primitive but powerful way-observation. His almost neurotic attention to detail is reflected in his work, which is beyond ordinary insight. In Monk's own words: It's a gift, and a curse.
But it is difficult for a healer to heal himself. The only case Monk can't solve is the case where his wife Trudy was killed by a car bomb. At the beginning of the first episode, his wife had been dead for 7 years, and Monk had no clue. Because of the intense stimulation, his obsessive-compulsive disorder worsened and he could not continue to work as a police officer at the San Francisco Police Department, so he became a private detective. He sees a psychiatrist four times a week and hires a female assistant. When the police station encounters a difficult case, his old boss Leland turns to him as a consultant.
"Monk" has one case per episode (a very few two episodes and one case), ranging from 13 episodes to 17 episodes per season, and it has now reached the sixth season. The main characters are just a few: Monk, his female assistant Natalie (sharona in the first three seasons), Captain Leland, a 250 police officer Randy, and monk's psychologist Korger. The plot is all kinds of cases, monk's longing for his wife, and jokes made by all his quirks. So "Monk" was shortlisted for the Emmy Awards as a comedy, but it was the American drama that moved me the most. What touched me was MONK's unchanging affection for his wife for more than ten years, his clumsiness, his stingy, and his kindness.
Sometimes I don’t even care what the case is. As long as I see monk, natalie, leland, randy, korger on a regular basis, I will feel as cordial as seeing an old friend. The boss summed it up as "have feelings for the characters". Well, no matter how good the drama is, it can't be good for seven or eight consecutive years, but if you have feelings for the characters in it, you will watch it all the way. Think of the American dramas "LOST" and "PB" that I cut down. They all gave up because they couldn't cultivate their feelings.
Trudy's case may never be solved, Monk may always be nervous, as long as the show is still there, it doesn't matter.
