The first half looks at the case, the second half looks at human nature

The first time I read the introduction, I was attracted by the plot.

And the first half of the film really revolves around the murder case of the architect, which is intertwined and can't stop.

But in the second half, after the identity of the architect's little girlfriend was revealed, and his wife's relationship with this little girl, my mind was always on them both.

It was not until the climax of the final plot, which broke out in the dark night of Chinatown and returned to peace, that my heart slowly calmed down.

Among the friends who participated in the movie together, there are many good ideas. I will also organize them here, just to represent individuals:

This is a movie with a [black theme], as always, the features are: water, retro suits of the 20th century, incest and other movie features.

In this movie, many plots are driven by water, which seems to be a shooting feature of the director.

In the end, the murderer's purpose succeeded, not only contributed to the construction of the dam, but also successfully took away his "granddaughter" (also his daughter), and the hero witnessed the tragic death of his beloved woman in the car, and once again dreamed of breaking Chinatown.

There are three places in the movie that are suspected of insulting China: the actor's joke about the Chinese husband, the Chinese servants at home, and the Chinese people watching the fun in Chinatown. .

It is a very attractive script, and I will look for the director's other works after a while.

How much I love Jack Nicholson, I just admire how such a man can make a neurotic big bad pervert from young to old... and so on. BTW, the screenwriter of this film is Robert Downey Jr's daddy.

Fortunately, Polanski insisted on the dark ending to keep his position as the standard bearer of the new film noir.

Chinatown quotes

  • Jake Gittes: May I speak frankly, Mrs. Mulwray.

Evelyn Mulwray: You may if you can, Mr. Gittes.

  • Noah Cross: Exactly what do you know about me? Sit down.

Jake Gittes: Mainly that you're rich, too respectable to want your name in the newspapers.

Noah Cross: Of course I'm respectable I'm old! Politicians ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough.
