bottomless black hole

Chinatown is a film directed by Roman Polanski about exposing the exploitation of the people by the dark politicians in the society at that time.

The male protagonist Jack in the film used to be a police officer in Chinatown. At that time, because of the cultural differences between the local police and the specialized management department and the way of life, the management of Chinatown at that time was very loose, and some Criminals are treated as an outlaw, where they can do whatever they want. Jack was heartbroken because of this. He was immersed in deep doubts about himself every day. Sometimes he helped others, but in the end he couldn't tell whether he helped good people or helped bad people, because his obsession with the light made him give up the Chinatown police. This job became a private detective. After walking out of Chinatown, he thought that he had finally returned to a fair society, but he did not expect to be involved in a bigger black hole. Chinatown is also a metaphor, implying the rampant extrajudicial elements in the society at that time, the mercenary government and the ugly politicians.

What impresses me is that the shootings in Chinatown, such a cruel and inhumane thing, the pedestrians around are really expressionless, are they numb, are they used to being exploited? I don't know.

The overall tones in the film are cold and dark, and the colors with extremely low brightness all reveal a cold and cruel emotion. The soundtrack is also very interesting, and the deep piano sound creates a tense atmosphere, which makes people feel very immersive.

The whole film is dark to the end, and there is no such thing as a happy reunion. The money forces of the dark and evil finally fought for justice, but it was only then, with the progress of society, this will also cease to exist. But in the end, the heroine did not die. Her ending can be said to be open-ended. Will she be caught? Can she bravely stand up and sue her father? We don't know yet, but hopefully things are moving in a brighter direction!
