Hayao Miyazaki's landmark work not only saved Studio Ghibli, which was on the verge of bankruptcy, but also became a personal immortal classic of Hayao Miyazaki.
Of course, while My Neighbor Totoro is gradually becoming popular all over the world, the quality of the film itself has also been questioned by various voices. Its overly simple plot, calm rhythm, and non-conflicting character relationships will indeed make the first look at this film. The people in the film have a feeling of chewing wax, but returning to the plain and pure life, looking for the long-lost childlike interest in the heart, is precisely the real value that this film brings to people. The happiness and well-being of the people with the heart must be far greater than that brought to those "mature and deep" people.
The pictures presented by this animation are beautiful, full of the natural attraction of the Japanese countryside, which is pleasing to the eye, and Joe Hisaishi's music is so excellent that it integrates with the film and becomes a classic at the same time.
It is undeniable that My Neighbor Totoro's creation is influenced by a certain true story and has something with Hayao Miyazaki's personal feelings, but those "horror" theories completely interpret the film as too evil.
