Tenderness - A Short Review of "Real Steel"

Ever since Super 8, I've been wary of seeing Spielberg's name on screen. The stuff that the old man touched has always been warm, sometimes just right, sometimes too warm.

But "Real Steel" gave me a much better feeling than "Super 8".

The first reason is that the sci-fi elements of this film are played in a clever way. In other words, I only found out that this is a sci-fi film a long time after the film started (no subtitles and I was busy absorbing the opening picture, maybe I didn’t hear the year mentioned in some dialogues), but I didn’t feel played, because this setting must be reasonable. The story takes place in the near future, almost 10 years later, our environment, daily life, food and clothing are not significantly different from now, and so are the buildings, but the old buildings are more obscure and the new buildings are more gorgeous. The first robot bullfight, I just think this robot is very flexible. Could it be that they have developed such a sophisticated robot in the United States? It was not until the second robot appeared and sprayed the words "super evil man" and "pain" on it, and saw the three-dimensional touch screen and the movements of operating the robot, I didn't understand, um, science fiction.

Then there's robot boxing. A zoo in 10 years, no animals, hysterical people, betting on a pheasant robot boxing match.

However, in the morning after the rainstorm, the autumn forest with red leaves is still as beautiful as it is now and thousands of years ago. I like the "real" futuristic feel of this "old-fashioned". Just like a photo with slightly enhanced contrast and color saturation, the picture and art of this film are subtle and just right. If you look closely, there is a sci-fi feel everywhere (such as the stained glass wall at night). Like we also live in that place, can be ignored everywhere.

This tone, coupled with the gimmicks of robots fighting boxing, well, it's not all gimmicks, it's actually a show, so the main line of the story is the old-fashioned redemption of father and son and the turning of the weak, so it can be tolerated. The first half was attracted by the fresh and meticulous setting and character introduction. I didn't know how the story would go, so I liked it very much, but later I knew it wouldn't turn out. In the end, it must be an exciting and happy ending, which is a bit boring. Fortunately, the robot fights are really good, and the design of Atom is very interesting. In fact, every robot is very interesting, so I forgive Lao Si for this warmth.

Hugh Jackman's performance is quite satisfactory, the role is almost tailor-made for him. The young actor Dakota Goyo completely stole his limelight, acting naturally bold and sharp, but not annoying, and still a cute child. He played the little Thor in Thor. I saw someone on the Internet suggesting that if "Ender's Game" is made, he is the best candidate for Ender, and I feel the same way. It's a pity that "Ender's Game" could not be filmed until the year of the monkey and the month of the horse. At that time, the child had already grown up.

This film is a small surprise, quite serious and qualified script (although it is very mainstream and warm and inspirational), exquisite production, excellent performance, it is worth watching. The director's past works are two "Sleepless in the Museum", and this one has a better texture than the first two.

What is Xiao Zhengtai, a little Japan is cute.

I thought that between the little boy and the armored robot, there would be a deep friendship similar to "Iron Giant" and "ET Alien", and the result was a robot version of "Rocky" interspersed with father-son love. Not bad, but there are no surprises and highlights. It is as clichéd as other sports inspirational films, sluggish, and lacks the pleasure of one-stop shopping. ps: How can a robot with such a cute head be used to fight?
